Cameron Alexis joined us a few weeks early on 4/6! My biggest source of stress this pregnancy was getting to the hospital in time after a precipitous labor with DS that ended up with me delivering in triage because I was complete by the time we got to the hospital. Well, they say every labor is different and “they” are right!
Last Wednesday I woke up with some pink tinged discharge. Not a huge deal, but it happened to be my day off so I fully took advantage of a day at home - put things away in the nursery, laundry, and put a few things in a tote for my hospital bag (thankfully I at least started this!). On Friday, I turned 37 weeks and at about 12:30 felt a tiny gush. I honestly thought I peed a little bit. It happened 2 more times by the time I left work a little after 4. I went to the bathroom before leaving, walked through to another building, went to the bathroom again and had leaked more so thinking this was really happening. I called and left a message for the MW on call and walked to my car. Sat there until they called back and headed to the hospital per her recommendation. Called H, called my parents to tell them to get a bag ready but not to leave yet. While on the phone with them, get a call from DS’s school that he had a 101 temp . Plan at that point was for me to get checked out, H to pick DS up from school, and everyone wait for me to give them an update since I was not having contractions. It indeed was my water that had broken and timing wise, the MW recommended I just stay and get induced because it had been 7 hours since it started (I was only 1cm when she did the exam to get an adequate sample of fluid to test). Cue tears on my end as I was not expecting this at 37 weeks or having to be induced after my labor with DS. At this point my parents were on their way and H left when they got to our house. H got to the hospital around 8:30 and by 9 we were in a L&D room and starting the induction. The MW on call was fabulous as were my nurses. I had really hoped to go low intervention/med free again and they were incredibly supportive of that with a “you can do this” attitude. I got a cook catheter inserted and pitocin started at the same time around 9pm and I was 2.5cm. Catheter fell out around 11:30pm and I was 5-6cm. MW predicted I’d have a baby by 1:30. Contractions were manageable up until this point and then started to intensify. Around 12:30am I called because I was feeling a ton of pressure and was 8cm. About 5-10 minutes later I called because I felt like I had to push and was having a really hard time. A different nurse came in and I told her I was basically pushing. They called MW and I started intentionally pushing at 12:50 and she was born at 12:55am. DD was 7lbs 3 oz and 19 1/4in long. She’s a peanut compared to when DS was born, but a good size for 37 weeks. DS came to meet her on Sunday am once he was feeling better and was completely adorable meeting her. We were able to go home Sunday afternoon once her bili came back ok. Sunday evening was hectic because we had not set up anything to put her in at that point (other than the crib in her nursery) so we had to take the PNP, swing, and other baby containment things down from the attic and wash. Between this and H having to install the carseat in the hospital garage, I wish we would've been a tad bit more prepared, but it all worked out in the end.
Congratulations! She is such a sweetheart and your DS looks very proud. I’m glad you had a good induction experience and hope you’re all adjusting to life as a family of four well.
