I am not really warrioring my weekend, just like the name.
Last night I volunteered with my last fish fry for our school. This is probably my last volunteer event after 11 years. It is a small, private school, so if you are a parent, you are practically on staff. It was tiring. but I will miss it. Dh and I went to the local bar and had drinks for a friends birthday. Too many, since my car is still there this morning and I have a headache.
Not much today, run, cook some burgers. Try to not let dd talk me into shopping. Dh and Ds are hunting.
Tomorrow, church and errands.
Update. A local owner of a landscape business asked for ds to work for him this summer. That is wonderful. He can earn some spending money and save money for some of the things he wants for his truck. He gets his permit in 2 weeks!
DD and DH are at the in laws this weekend. DS and I stayed for his soccer game that was cancelled. We slept in (til 7) then got up and had a mommy and son breakfast.
My mom is going to take him for a few hours while I run errands and get my hair cut. Very chill weekend before work travel next week
I am working today. DH has to take 2 kids to baseball and dance. Drop 1, drop 2, pick up 1, pick up 2. Then drop DD off at a birthday party. I tried to get everything as ready as possible for him, so it went smooth, but yeah lots of commuting.
Tomorrow it might snow, I hope it misses us. It could be rain, it could be 1 inch, could be 2 inches and one model even had 6 inches, but I think there is something wrong with that model. Cub scouts was cancelled so nothing planned for Sunday. I did a big clean yesterday on my day off. I didn't leave the house except for lunch.
Now that DH is into juicing which only lasted 2 weeks so far, nothing this week. I had to make room for all the bottles- eyeroll. So I cleaned out our front hall closet to put more cleaning supplies in there and move them out of the kitchen. I had to buy more food storage containers, so I cleaned that cabinet out. Cleaning out baking cabinet and pots and pans cabinet. We are getting 2 cabinets repaired and one is a radiator cover, so it has a wire mesh. So had to go through every individual item in the workshop to find it because it blended in. I did light cleaning there, no real purging but a few items. I put up burlap over our cistern. I'm not sure if that is going to work out because it is pourous and the point is to contain concrete dust, but whatever. We can try to for a while. I straightened up a few items over the cistern, and make that look slightly better. And laundry.
Sitting in my car in a parking lot eating Chick Fil A. This may be the highlight of my week?
Plan to go home and persuade DH to help me move all the furniture in the playroom (it’s a shotgun room so very long). Hoping to make some liveable spaces. When he gets up from his nap.
I’m taking DD shopping before that. I found myself and both littler kids Easter shoes so figure I should also try to find the long waisted teenager shirts while I am on a roll.
My sister is flying in from the east coast with her two older kids ( who are close in age to my two older kids). So we have a packed agenda including legoland with 5 kids tomorrow. DH goes to Boston Sunday and I have to fly out to Texas before he gets back Tuesday - and my sister is here through Wednesday. Boo.

Yesterday was my Friday off. My mom and I took a day trip to Ft Wayne, IN for the annual Vera Bradley outlet sale. It was fun to spend the day with my mom.
Today I took DD to our church's egg hunt and then we went to get groceries. DH stayed home and did some cleaning. DS didn't want to go, so he stayed home and played video games. This afternoon I'm watching some training for work because I didn't have time to do it last week. (And I'm really not happy about it because they gave us three weeks to the training, with those weeks falling right during spring break when a lot of people take time off. Originally it was 10 hours of training, then they cut some out and claimed it was around 5 hours, but I've done about 5 hours and still have probably 2+ more hours of training left.) I'm also doing laundry today.
Sunday we're supposed to get 3-5" of snow and there will also be some sort of rain/snow mix at times. So tomorrow afternoon I am crossing my fingers and hoping for time to take a nap and read a book.
Another Waverly Q. We have worked with DS, our 8.5 year old on all the rules to stay home alone for short periods of time and he has done well.
DD and I have a hair appointment at 6:30. DH might already be home but the last train would have him home by 7. Would you leave DS home? My argument before was that I had dye on my hair and couldn’t leave in an emergency, but I think DH was out of town and total appointment was 1.5 hours. In this scenario DH is in town, so it would only be 30 minutes.
You WM with snow in the forecast: I am so sorry. Our trees are budding, we had the ac in the car on today...I’m so ready for it.
I took the kids to our local middle school for a community performance of Seussical. The did a really great job. I wanted the kids to see the school that they will transition to after they graduate from their current private school. Going from a population of 110 kids to 1000 will be interesting. We live only a mile from the school and walked in the rain. It was a fun Friday night.
Today, DH worked and the kids and I had to catch all three cats and take them to the vet....success! Then we went to the annual arts fest at school, snuck out early because it was super chaotic and not too engaging. We swapped kids with another family and we currently have two seven year old girls and they have our 10 year old boys.
We are watching Labyrinth and then they are going to sleep all night without getting scared, right?
Tomorrow we have all those delayed chores, a library visit and ice skating lessons.
Yesterday was the gym, H took Ds1 to practice and had DS2 with him so DD and I could get hair cuts. Then I took her to her soccer game and we had the whole afternoon/evening free. I scrubbed all the stuff on the front porch while H got the camper ready and the kids played outside. It was beautiful out yesterday. Home Depot and Lowe’s for some new outside things and take out.
Today is a trail run, meeting the family for brunch at a crepe place. We are skipping church and I’m suppressing catholic guilt. Maybe a friend will come over to play with DD and H will mow the lawn.
Speaking of....have you guys seen the lawnmower that works like a Roomba?!?! I just stood there and stared with my mouth open. H took the paper. But then he said that sounds like a great idea till someone steals it out of your yard. www.husqvarna.com/us/products/offers/automower-crown-commitment/

is it the first time he has actually stayed home? If it’s the first, I wouldn’t. If he has already done it then I would. Going over and knowing the Rules is one thing, but being scared the first time happens too. We started with running out to the gas station or store for a quick trip.

Not the first time. We also started out with quicker 10-15 minute trips.
The storms last night blew my trashcan into the neighbors yard. Luckily we are pretty good about bagging the garbage so only a little to pick up, however when I went to pick up the can I dropped it on my toe and sliced it open. Now it is bleeding through the band aid. I am afraid to look.
DD (1st grade) has to do a presentation next Friday. It’s 5 minutes on any topic she wants. They need to have a visual aid, like a poster or an example. (Like, if you want to talk about rabbits, you can bring in a stuffed rabbit and talk about why it has long ears and stuff.) DD asked her teacher if she can do a slide show. We spent 2 hours yesterday building a PowerPoint on the planets and the gods. So each planet, a couple of facts about it, and a couple of facts about the god, with a picture of each. Fun fact, it’s surprisingly hard to find depictions of the gods where they look fairly realistic and are wearing clothes. The first was DD’s requirement. The second was mine.
DS has his show yesterday, and he did great. He said he had fun, but he looked like he wanted to cry the whole time. He said he was just concentrating. Plus, he has this odd tic where he brings his hands up to shoulder level and kind of wiggles his fingers. He also rolls his eyes when it happens. It seems to only happen when he’s excited or over-stimulated, but it is frankly freaking me out. It was very pronounced yesterday, and I got it on video. His 5 year old checkup is in a couple of weeks, and I’m going to show his pediatrician.
I'm tired and cranky. My BFF texted me yesterday and asked if she could crash at my place last night and if I would pick her up from the airport. I said yes no big deal. She was supposed to meet up with her brother but his flight got delayed in NC and then I got a text and hour before her plan was going to land. Her whole flight out of Denver got cancelled and she couldn't get another flight until Tuesday and then would fly back out on Friday so she scrapped the whole trip. I'm beyond bummed as we had a beach walk date schedule Thursday. DD is bummed as she was so excited to see Aunt A. Good news is DH stepped up and cleaned house. Ladies my house hasn't been this clean since February. My kitchen table is clean and the Christmas table cloth is off. It was so nice to wake to a somewhat clean house this morning and all did was the mile high pile of dishes.
DD came to work yesterday. And decided to come again today as she didn't want to be stuck in the garage watching daddy do his woodworking.

sunbutter, does your school stop in 5th grade or does it go higher and ya'll just decided to switch when elementary is over? My kids are in 1st and prek and I'm wondering what we're going to do. Our school does go to 8th but the middle school is tiny right now.

Here the Catholic schools and Montessori stop at grade 8, so most switch in high school either to the local public high school or to private Catholic high schools in neighboring towns which is a 30 minute commute.
A few switched in 5th grade because there was a problem with a teacher and being a small school with only one teacher per grade they couldn’t switch to another classroom. It was the last year in elementary because our middle school is 6,7,8.

Our current school runs from preK (3) to 6th grade. I think is roughly 110 kids. We started there because we were in the city and didn't want to use the public options. The school and the school community has had a tremendous impact on the kids - who they are and our family, especially me as a mother. It is a Quaker school, very small and I would love to pretend like I did a lot of research and discovered it but in reality, I just fell into it and was very lucky that it was such a good fit.
After 6th grade, the destination of the kid depends on a few things. One, if they are in the city district, they are likely to either try for one of the Magnet schools in center city or most go onto one of the other Friends schools that goes up to 12th. There are some absolutely amazing options if you can afford it in the city.
DH took a job in a western suburb so we moved out of the city last fall to make his commute a bit better. We also strategically placed ourselves in the public school district we were most comfortable with. We gave the kids the option of switching to public this year but they are in love with their current school, so they stayed there. It is about 20 minutes away but on my way to work so not a big change in our routine.
So, DS is currently in 5th. His class is currently 13 students, probably 10 next year. He decided to complete his 6th grade year. We are planning on using the public middle school after that. Unfortunately, it runs from 5-8, so he will joining half way through. He knows this and says that he is ok with it. I have been working to expose him to the local community through the YMCA and related things so that he gets to know some of the kids prior to starting. Having said that, we are few miles from a mind blowing private Quaker school that is optional boarding. For me, the best advertisement for a school are the people educated there and I know several who came through this school and it is soooo tempting to consider it. BUT, it would have a big impact on our financial planning and our lifestyle. We are counting on switching to public to catch up with college savings and I really really cherish our vacations which are not cheap. So we will have some research to do next year....
DD is in 1st. Contrary to DS, I think she would be who she is no matter what school she went to. She would thrive and get into trouble anywhere, lol. BUT she is in love with our current school and I would feel terrible not giving her the same opportunity that her brother had. So we will take it year by year, but the current plan is that she will also stay in the private till 6th. Her class is bigger right now, at about 17 kids.
We are currently in a Catholic k8 school. We switched to a public high school. We could go to a very small private high school. However, we feel that the money would be better spent toward college. Plus the opportunities are so much more at a public. Dd was going to have 11 in his class, he now has 400.
At this point, I kind of wish we put dd in public earlier. She has such a hard time with new people and new situations. I feel like we need this switch to public school because she needs to learn to interact with people not like her.

We're in a great school district also and live in a neighborhood with lots of kids so we're actually the weird ones doing public, but DS has had a great year this year. We'll see how it continues on.
One thing that has occurred to me is that if he continues doing private middle where he is, he won't have an opportunity inside the school to participate in band or orchestra because the school is so very small. They do have a drama program, so he could very well do that, and may very well do that as he does drama once a week now and loves it. I can tell you right now that he won't do sports. He hates them.
The social aspect of the transition just seems to me like it will be a hard thing, but if he walks into a natural group then it'll be easier. But the natural groups that have a lot of their own social activities are band, orchestra, theater and sports. He's not doing sports so that either means theater or getting into private lessons in an instrument I guess.
