What did you get your child for First Communion, especially if it's a boy? Did you go with cash, fun, religious, a mix? For my daughter, I got her a special book she wanted and wrote a really nice inscription, and a pretty dove necklace (that I don't think she's ever worn!), and something American Girl. I am struggling more with DS.
I grew up Lutheran, but for my confirmation my parents took me to the jewellery store and let me pick something (within limits). I ended up picking a really pretty locket I wore for a lot of my childhood. Maybe something like a watch with a message engraved on the back?
Not helpful for your question, but I will never forget my non-religious grandmaโs communion gift to me. I had opened bibles and lockers and picture frames...and suddenly I see this mound of presents, and it is a giant NKOTB poster, NKOTB sleeping bag, NKOTB doll (Joe), NKOTB pin, and so on and so on. Seven-year-old me was in heaven.
Yeah, I'm looking to NOT go straight super-religious. He will probably get enough wall crosses and child Bibles. Actually, my family will mostly do cash, so that's cool. I just want to find something a little meaningful/special and not just like, "here's some money for Minecraft apps!"

For my ds, we set up his own savings account and put money in it. He had bonds and stuff from his baptism, and we also have an online only savings that is 'his' but in our names, but this is his account at a local bank. He liked being able to go and deposit (most) of the money he received and also likes to monitor his own account.
