I clearly have an interview today, and I just got back from getting yet another trigger point injection in my jacked-up neck muscle. Hopefully this is the last of it, because I'd really like to have a full range of motion and not be in pain anymore.
I probably have to hustle and mow the lawn at lunchtime, before that phone interview, since it's going to rain for the next couple days, and we're leaving on Saturday for Riviera Maya. I need this vacation so badly! I also need my neck functioning so that I can haul my own air tanks around to dive
chalupa that's a lot to do in one day! I hope this trigger point injection world and your neck is feeling better for your vacation.
I went to the doctor yesterday for my foot and ankle swelling (and maybe some calf/shin and wrist swelling, too). They think it's most likely just a reminder reaction to the Aleve I took last week and we talked about me using acetaminophen for pain in the future, or topical things like lidocaine. They are running tests to make sure my kidneys are okay, but they think I'm going to be fine.

I've been obsessed with trying to make the perfect espresso shot with my new espresso/latte maker. I think I've literally made espresso shots everyday since I got it, haha.
I bought floormats for my car and they arrive tomorrow. You know you are an adult when you get excited over floormats.
Hope it's just the Aleve tiramisu, I'm sure it is.
bullygirl979, I strive to be that much of an adult. ;-)
cleo29, You're going through something really hard right now. You'll have times where you feel completely helpless and sad. You'll have moments when all you want to do is be through this. You'll even have moments where you know you can do it. In the end, you can and you will. I PROMISE you that you'll look back on this time and find that you grew through it. Hang in there and lean on the ladies here.
Be gentle with yourself cleo29, stress is hard on your body. I gained some weight with my divorce from stress and once I got through that period and started getting back on my feet, I worked to take it off. It’s important to remember the best thing you can do is be kind to yourself. It’s hard to keep in mind that we are not just our bodies and shouldn’t let how we look like define how we feel about ourselves. Hugs.
I’m doing my first paid gig for cupcakes this week. I have to get 50 ready for a wedding shower in strawberry flavor. I’ve got to go buy all the strawberries today. I was initially going to do a champagne cake like my wedding, but I found a recipe for strawberry purée in the cake mix with strawberries folded into the batter and strawberry buttercream with strawberry purée, so I’m going to try that one. The secret is piling strawberries on top of the naked cakes and then frosting around them so there are surprise extra strawberries in there! I love that idea. I hope it comes out well when I try it.
Good luck on your interview, chalupa! And I hope your neck feels better soon!
I hope you feel better soon too, tiramisu - swelling isn't fun.
My weight's not where I want it right now either, cleo29. I went to the doctor today and was a good 10 pounds over what I thought I would be. I've been feeling heavier, but it always hurts to have the number thrown in your face. All I can say is you have a lot to be stressed out about right now. Go easy on yourself.
I'm feeling very "up" today...I started feeling this way yesterday afternoon. Slept off/on last night. Very scatter brained today. Nothing is holding my attention for more than about five minutes. Which is not good - I have work to do...
The interview was fun (for real!). I'm probably 10k over their current salary range, though - they have to have a department huddle to discuss if they can stretch the budget enough that it makes sense to bring me in for an interview. They said they DO have some play in the pay range, so I'm not completely discouraged yet. If so, I can expect to hear from them sometime next week (while i'm on vacation, of course!) to come in the week of the 6th. So crossing my fingers that they find some spare money laying around, because the people I've spoken too so far have been extremely kind and enjoyable to speak with.
I also identify with not loving my current weight. I was afraid they were going to tell me the swelling is just because I need to lose weight, but luckily they didn't.
I'm trying to do a Mediterranean diet for the most part and overall stick to eating as much fresh food as I can manage. Like this morning, instead of just having a fruit-flavored low-sugar, high-protein yogurt, I had raspberries and blackberries on the side. My snacks are roasted, unsalted cashews and diced pears. Lunch is an arugula salad with tomato, feta, gyro meat, lemon, and a little tzatziki. I'm trying to drink a ton of water. But man overall it just feels hard and discouraging to dislike the number you see and to feel like it takes a TON of effort to see any change.
Get rid of your scale tiramisu. One good thing I have learned from rusty is that being healthy and quality of life isn’t equated to a certain number on the scale. We are always too hard on ourselves when we are making good choices (and even sometimes not!) overall for our well being.

I agree - ditch the scale and focus more on how you feel.
Thank you doglove and spindle92! I went years without weighing myself and the only reason I've started is because I want to get serious about losing the weight I gained since my foot injury. I don't mind it as much as getting on the scale at the doctor's office. At home, it's just data collection. At the doctor's office, I feel judged. Didn't help that last week for my pre-employment physical, the doctor told me I was disgustingly healthy, just needed to lose a few pounds. It's the first time a doctor's said that to me. There rest of the time, I feel mostly okay. I promise I'll be mindful of the weighing and any interference in my life!

tiramisu, the other hard thing about the scale is the fat vs. muscle. I got way discouraged when I started working out again because the numbers weren't budging. But I took my measurements and I lost a lot of fat, just gained a lot of muscle. If you do feel the need to measure your progress, I would highly recommend using a fabric tape measure to measure various points of your body. Ditch the scale.
doglove , forgot to post this yesterday but that is AWESOME about your cupcake gig! When you make them do you all the extras in to work?
I’m not sure what your question is! Do I save extras?
LOL. It would help if I put together a complete sentence. I love all of your pictures of the cupcakes that you make. When you make them, do you bring the extras in to work? I'm contemplating baking more (as I love it) and was thinking about pawning the extras off on P to bring to work. I would think your co-workers would love you if you bring them in treats
I agree on the weight. I'm struggling right now. I know what I need to do. I need to eat better, portion control, no junk snacks and work out more. I've been trying to start small again and working my way up to 100 push ups. I'm at 35. It's still a struggle. I feel like I dwell on the parts of my body that I don't like. Then eat because I don't like it. Which does nothing good for me.
My brother and his BF moved in to my neighborhood. They came over for dinner and to rewatch game of thrones. I made a balsamic glazed salmon with a mixed green salad with tomatoes and avocado. It was really really good. I will totally make it again.

It depends really, sometimes I don’t have too many extras and I do freeze a few for myself (cake on demand). If I make a batch with not enough to go to work (the demand is heavy there because everyone is always wanting me to bring them in) I usually just share with our neighbors and friends. I had to sneak the ones I made for my gym instructor into work the other day so people wouldn’t see and ask to have one. 😂 but generally, they have been a good test audience for me! A’s work people have been begging for some and I just haven’t sent him with any yet, but I have promised to when I get a break from other obligations.

This is a brilliant idea! And I have no doubt there is heavy demand...your pictures on FB look AMAZING.

Thanks! Oddly enough, I obsess way more over measurements than I do weight. My thinking before was unrealistic, like "I'm back to dancing 3 days a week, the weight should just fall off on its own!" and it was a good reality check that I needed to make an effort myself, so I'm trying to be much more mindful of eating fruit and veggies (I'm terrible at this, especially veggies) and drinking lots of water.
Luckily not a single person in my actual doctor's office said a thing about my weight or needing to lose. They even told me that I'd get a handout in my paperwork about a dietary modification since my blood pressure tested high for pretty much the first time ever, but that it's automatic and I could disregard it. They're much more rational there.
