We have the opportunity to fly business class on our next trip. We have two options.
One option is to fly from Frankfort to LAX on a 747-8 Lufthansa flight.
The second option is to fly Frankfort to London and then London to LAX on a 787-9 United flight.
The Lufthansa flight will get in 3.5 hours earlier however with the United flight we will get about 6000 lifetime miles and we think the entertainment will have better options (will have flown a Lufthansa flight from Johannesburg right before).
Any experience on either airline? Is one better than the other or are we good whatever option we choose?
Lufthansa business class is typically like premium economy on other airlines so it may be that way but not sure on Frankfurt to Lax (I went shanghai to Frankfurt). I don’t enjoy Lufthansa and it was one of my least favourite airlines that I’ve flown. I haven’t flown united in many years so can’t comment on that one.

Thanks! Both flights would have the lay down seats so better than premium economy.

I would always rather spend less time traveling and not have a layover. 6000 miles isn't anywhere close to enough to sway my opinion on that. Also, Lufthansa's in Star Alliance, so won't you get miles anyway? Given the fact that the seats are the same, I don't see any upside to taking United.

I’m the odd person who’s relatively loyal to United because I’ve flown them since they were Continental and have always lived near a hub. They’re typically who I fly internationally (since, again, hub) and I’ve had only good experiences to date.
That said, when you have a direct flight option, take it. Connecting is the worst and LHR is often no picnic.

Oh then that’s good. definitely that route to avoid a connection.
