DS’s given name is top 10. But we call him by his middle name which is barely in the top 200.
Of course my #1 choice if this baby is a boy is also top 10. But whatever. It’s not a trendy name. And it’s my dads.
It seems like the top 10 girl names always skew trendy (and will sound dated in 10-15 years) while the top 10 boy names skew classic.
I didn't know P was your DS' middle name. It's Cal's middle name too
Yes! He’s a fourth, so I wanted him to be able to be called something else. Theres too many Jims in the room. Ha.
Yes, the top two girls names we’ve always discussed are not top 10. One gets close but is classic (Elizabeth) and the other barely gets into the 100s, which really surprises me (Catherine).

Yay! This is so much fun.
DH wants to stick with our boy name choice from DD (we were team green), but I have a couple other options that I like. They are all in the 100-200 range, which is where DDs name was when she was born. She has now shot up a bit.

That's my DD's name, and was my mom's. I think the K spelling(s) are a lot more common. My mom spent her whole life telling people she was "Catherine/Cathy with a C." She never needed to specify that it was -ine though. I'm sure DD will end up doing the same, telling everyone she's "Catherine/Cate with a C."
DS (Sean) will be checking in at #269 for 2018, after his name falling pretty swiftly and consistently since 57 in 2000. Wonder how low it'll go.

I wish that was an option for us, but in our case it's too similar to DS' name. We were team green with DS and our girl name was Camille. DS is Calvin and we mostly call him Cal or Caly. We had planned to call a Camille Cam or Cami so its just too cutesy. I still looooove the name Camille though.
(Millie is not an option, that's what DS calls my sister instead of auntie)
This must be regional. I am a teacher, so access to lots of kids. Out of the girl list, I have only had a noticeable number of Sophias and Isabellas over the last 10 years.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I know SO MANY EVELYNS. Its gotta be even higher than #10 in MA.

It is very regional! Our current top name (Dean) is way more popular in our state than the national trend. I blame the hipsters. I'm still waiting for them to find Clark!
There are also names I haven't really heard that are super popular.
Both my kids' names have grown in popularity every year--DD1's went from not in the top 1000 to the 800s, and DD2s went from 300s to 200s (they're 3 and 4). I guess I'm a name trendsetter! lol

Forgot all about the list!
Alexandra's been continuing its gradual slide down and is now #125 (it was #83 when DD1 was born in 2013). Elizabeth's been holding steady at #13 since 2015 (DD2 was born in 2017).
Whatever, my main criteria involved not being popular where I live. National statistics don't phase me too much but I always like to see the trends.
Obviously we skew toward traditional. DS is a James Patrick. My pick if this kid is a boy is William George. Girl choices are Elizabeth and catherine.
My non traditional favorite girls name is Cecily. Apparently it’s never broken the top 1000. Does it suck? You can tell me the truth my gut says this kid is a boy anyway (finding out Monday!!!)
The year DD was born (2012), there were between 150-175 girls born in the US given that name. This year it's dropped to a bit under 100. AND YET, another family moved into our neighborhood with a kid about 9 months younger and with the same name, so my kid has to use her last initial on swim team for this summer. It's so bizarre!

knx9211, We have such similar name preferences. Our boy name was William since the pee stick dried for my first pregnancy (with DD1). But alas, 5.5 years later we have 2 daughters and a vasectomy lol. And DD2 is Elizabeth so I'm biased towards that. Catherine was another top choice (we apparently love 9-letter names with multiple options for nicknames lol) but that's my MIL's name. I don't hate her, I just didn't want to use a name in the family. So that's a great choice too.
Cecily has grown on me because I actually know someone IRL who named her daughter that. I had never heard of it before (the daughter is 10) but I don't think it's bad at all.
Both of my kids' names are in the top 10 (i have two boys). i'm with Velar Fricative, my main consideration was whether i regularly heard/hear the names in my everyday life. i didn't/don't, so it's all good.
Emma has been the top girl name for 5 years but off the top of my head, I can't think of a single Emma I know.
I only know one IRL and she's 9 years old. I felt like when she was born, it seemed like it was already declining in popularity but clearly not.
Ella, on the other hand? We have a niece named Ella and now DD2 has two classmates named Ella and she loves to talk about them (and uses their last initials when saying their names, which is adorable).

SOOOO many El....names. I can't even get them straight. I know so many Elle, Ella, and Ellies. And of course the parents always get offended if I pick the wrong one. Sorry, folks!
