I'm contemplating having a true gait analysis done and I'm wondering if anyone has done this.
I have a history of knee problems although I'll be the first to admit that historically I haven't done it "right". I either jump up my mileage too quickly or I run, run, run and nothing else. This time around I've been upping my mileage slooooooowly and I've been taking power vinyasa classes 2-3 times a week. I also own two pairs of shoes and alternate them, and I've started taking glucosamine again. However, I think I'm still a little gun-shy about getting injured again.
I've have a gait analysis done at the local Fleet Feet but I've looking at a true gait/running analysis and not just for purposes of a fitting. The downside is that they aren't covered by insurance, unless you're injured. I found two local places that have medical professionals/physical therapists complete them. They are $150-180 for the service but they are 90 minutes long.
Has anyone done anything like this? If you have, did you find it helpful or not really?
It was a special PT place located in a hospital center and they treat our NFL team. I’m pretty sure they called it a dynamic gait analysis. They used video and drew lines and stuff. I walked out with really solid recommendations, very specific PT exercises that I kept up religiously and that kept me Injury free for years. I only had to go to that office once, then they had me to to their satellite office for PT on the anti gravity treadmill.
I haven't had one done, but totally would if I had a recurring problem. I've been lucky in that the PT watching me on a treadmill gave enough feedback to identify and correct my form to rehab the knee issue I had (I guess my form was that bad it made it obvious, hahaha). If that hadn't worked I would totally go in for a more specific/formal analysis.

I was just thinking about having one done. I am lucky to live near a well known sports medicine program and this is something they offer. I don’t know how much it costs but your pricing seems good to me with everything they cover in the analysis. I have also had one done at Fleet Feet and wasn’t super impressed. I’m due for new shoes so I figure now is a good time to do it. If you end up doing it let us know how it does!

Yes I did one about 4 years ago after hip issues from my first marathon. It was $100 after a race coupon, normally $150 so that pricing sounds in line with what I'd expect to pay. They did a PT type assessment to analyze strength and flexibility. Then had me run on a treadmill with all the nodes etc that they took a video of for stride and gait analysis. I received a write up of the analysis and exercises to address the assessment findings. Overall I found it very helpful and when I start to have problems now, it's basically the same reason that the original assessment found.

Yeah mine was running for two minutes and them telling me I overpronate while shoving stability sneakers and inserts in my hands. LOL. The one place that does it has this as their description and it's 90 minutes long:
Complete history, including normal weekly volume, past injuries, footwear, goals, workout types, cross-training, athletic background and more
Physical exam aimed at evaluating flexibility, strength, and functional movements
Videotaping on treadmill from multiple views
In-person frame-by-frame video review, evaluating various key stages of the run gait
"Report card" of video findings
Instruction in cues, exercises and drills to work on in order to improve gait deviations and inefficiencies, with (printed or emailed) list of instruction

Thanks for the info! Would the analysis include shoe recommendations? I really need new shoes but having gone to FF a couple of times with not great results I’d love to get a better recommendation.

I would think so. I’d just google “running analysis” or “gait analysis” and your city. That’s how I found the one place. Or, if you’re friends with any triathletes or runners, they might know.
