QOTW: Inspired by the fact that I am in a reading slump right now - what kind of book do you tend to pick up when nothing seems particularly interesting to read?
Reminder: Read "Circe" by Madeline Miller for this month's book club discussion in less than two weeks! (May 29)
Happy Friday! I am about 50% of the way through, "The Immortalists" by Chloe Benjamin and am really enjoying it! Very compelling premise and the execution has kept me intrigued.
QOTW: When I am in a reading slump, I usually go for a light, fluffy read or historical fiction (my favorite genre).
I read The Dry by Jane Harper this week. I loved The Lost Man, which she wrote more recently. The Dry seemed like a lesser version.
QOTW: I'm going through a slight slump myself. I've started two books in the past week that I've put aside after a few pages because they didn't grab me. I tend to default to mystery/thriller so that's why I'm continuing with the Veronica Speedwell mystery series at the moment.

This week I read:
The Bride Test (4 stars)
Confess (Colleen Hoover) 4 stars
Currently Reading:
Miracle Creek
The Girl He Used to Know ( I Started this and was unable to finish bc my library copy ran out, I finally got it back and am breezing through, almost done and really enjoying it)
Up next: One Day in December
QOTD: oh, hmmm, reading slumps, Sometimes I am in one bc I have read TOO many of my reading UN-Slumps lol. I love psychological thrillers, contemporary fiction . Something by Colleen Hoover, Diane Chamberlain or Kristin Hannah never disappoints!
Finished: Trust No One by Jayne Anne Krentz, pretty good, didn't get the whole twist until almost the end
QOTW: A kindle freebie romance that's predictable, but I'm rarely disappointed b/c there's not expectation, KWIM?
I just started, but will DNF the Sophie Kinsella My not so Perfect Life. I have A Simple Favor up next. I hope it doesn't suck. I haven't actually watched the movie.
I read The One by John Marrs: 4 stars I’m currently reading Pachinko. It’s really good and I can’t seen to put it down.
QOTW: I had started rereading books when I was going through a slump. I took a week off from reading and now I have 3 books that I’ve been waiting for come in at the same time so it’s been my motivation to get back to reading.

I've been MIA for the past 2 weeks because we went to Disney World! I didn't read at all while I was there and I'm having a hard time getting back into reading because I've been so busy since we've been home and basically just crash every night.
Anyway, I'm still reading Getting Hot With The Scot. It's kind of dragging and I don't think I'm going to end up loving it.
I have finished nothing, but I'm almost done with Strangers in their Own Land on audible and Where the Crawdads Sing.
QOTW: some recent literary fiction. I figure that's likely to come up either here or in a book club, or at least I can find a good amount of people online talking about it.
Finished: Trust No One by Jayne Anne Krentz, pretty good, didn't get the whole twist until almost the end

The movie was actually quite good, and I've heard good things about the book.

Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive by Stephanie Land - 3 Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi - 4 Only Beloved by Mary Balogh - 2 Silent Melody by Mary Balogh - 3 XL by Scott Brown - 4
A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne - 5 Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - 4 My Lobotomy by Howard Dully - 4
QOTW: I get into slumps sometimes, and I don't try to push myself out of them. I just take a break from reading for a while and I always come back to it. Sometimes it takes a few weeks or a month- usually when we get really busy.
I just read How Not to Die Alone (really enjoyed it) and I am currently reading Rising Strong by Brene Brown and about to simultaneously read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.
QOTD: My slumps tend to come when I try reading too many serious/long books in a row and it feels like work, so I pick up a thriller or something quick (like Jane Green or Elin Hildebrand).
Finished: Dark Matter by Blake Crouch It took me a little while to get into this one but once I had some idea what was going on, it became really interesting. I enjoyed it a lot.
Currently reading: What the Eyes Don't See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance, and Hope in an American City by Mona Hanna-Attisha It's the story of the Flint water crisis, by the pediatrician who helped uncover it. it's very well written and both engaging and infuriating.
QOTW: I usually read something by Susanna Kearsley. They're not great but I know what to expect and usually find them enjoyable. They're also quick reads. Not sure what I'll do when I run out of them.
My answer goes with both weekly report and QOTW: I am rereading The Poisonwood Bible, thanks to my reading slump earlier in the week. I like rereads for a reading-slump cure because I know I won’t be disappointed.

I just finished How Not to Die Alone. I originally gave it 5 stars but looking back, I dropped it to 4. I really liked it but there were some parts that were a little unbelievable or weird. But overall, really good!
I've been exhausted lately so that's all I've read lately. I'll probably start Necessary People this weekend!
When I don't know what to read next I'll usually find something from my want to read list on Goodreads that's available at the library on e-book.

Those are my same most recent books, and I also was going to rate it five and then decided on four! I wasn’t that big of a fan of Necessary People, but it’s getting a ton of press, so maybe I just don’t have sophisticated tastes.
I’m still working on Silent Spring by Rachel Carson.
QOTW: I do feel a little in a reading slump right now too, but it’s because I’ve been really busy with a ton of other things the last few weeks and haven’t had as much time to read. I’ll pick back up with either a book club read or one that comes highly recommended.

I read The Library of Lost and Found, which I really enjoyed, and then I plowed through Bird Box in less than two days. It was a really compelling read. They changed a fair amount for the movie, but I ended up liking both which doesn't happen often.
This week I finished You by Caroline Kepnes and Dear Martin by Nic Stone. Enjoyed both but obviously very different.
QOTW: I'm a 6th grade teacher, so when I'm in a slump, I tend to choose YA that my students recommend or ones that I want to place in my classroom library. I learned the hard way a few years ago that unless I've read it myself or another teacher, I need to preview it before giving it to the kids.
