I'm going to be in Chicago on Saturday for just over 24 hours with my parents and sister (no kids). It's my Mom's 70th birthday and she decided she wanted to see Hamilton in Chicago (she lives in Maryland, so her choice of locations is a little confusing, but I guess it's her birthday).
We have a few hours Saturday afternoon and a few hours Sunday morning open. What should we do? Visit the Hancock tower observatory, do a river boat tour? Any recommendations?
Pizza. That’s my always item when in Chicago. I hear fabulous things about the boat architecture tours. I love the museums there if those are your thing at all. The Bean is something nice to see, take pics.

Since you'll be there for such a short time, I would skip a boat tour and just hop on a water taxi. Giordano's or Lou Malnati's would be my choice. Willis Tower (formerly Sears tower) and the Bean as other people recommended.
I feel like the Hancock line is really long at least for the Signature bar. We’ve had better luck at the Willis Tower but we went right when they opened. I like the architecture boat tour, but it is long ish and $$$.
It really depends on what you are in the mood for and like. The Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Museum of Sci and Industry are excellent and also fairly pricey.
