Short version: Darby Clare arrived at 12:40am on 5/30 after a ~38 hour induction, weighing in at 7lbs 8 oz and 20". I tore extensively and ended up in the OR post delivery. So far Darby is sweet and content and nursing like a champ!
Long version: By the time I got settled in and Cytotec got started it was about 11am on 5/28. Despite being told at my appt that I was 1cm and 80% effaced, the midwife on call classified me as a fingertip dilated and 50%, which was discouraging. We did 3 rounds of Cytotec with no progress before decided to add in a cervical balloon (which is supposed to dilate you to about a 4). After about 5 hours (in which I had gotten a 4th dose of Cytotec), the balloon fell out indicating I had reached a 4cm. That was at about 11am on day 2. We started Pitocin and then things started getting busy in L&D and I was kind of left on my own to labor. Contractions were consistent, but not particularly painful until around dinner time that evening. I got my epidural and was finally checked again at 8pm. I figured I was at 6cm at least, but they checked and I was at 2cm. Guys, I just started crying. This was the end of day 2 and we all had thought I had reached 4cms ~9 hours earlier because I lost the balloon. They cranked the Pitocin and I decided to take a nap. They woke me just after midnight (induction day 3) and found that I had progressed to 10 while I was sleeping and ready to push! Starting pushing at about 12:20am and Darby arrived at 12:40am
Buuut, I ended up tearing hole to hole and was sent to the OR to stitch up my vag, rectum, and everywhere in between. Ooof. Took about 90 minutes, which sucked (I just wanted to be with my girl!), but so far it hasn't been too painful.
So far Darby is sweet and content, sleeping long stretches, and nursing very well. My mom brought DS in yesterday and he was not very impressed. He kept asking me to give the baby to Nana or Daddy and when I obliged he didn't leave my lap, eyeing his sister warily. My poor buddy! It was pretty much the reaction I expected and I'm a little nervous about how the weekend is going to go with us all home.
Oh man I'm so glad shes here finally! You have my sympathies though on the tearing. I tore and had an episiotomy with Z and the stitching afterwards seemed to take for ever. I hope healing goes smoothly for you! She beautiful, congrats again!
Yay! She’s beautiful! She looks like C! I hope he warms up soon and you heal quickly. It’s crazy to me that you were fully dilated but they had to wake you. Haha. I’ve never labored though so I don’t know how these things work. Enjoy the snuggles!
Does she ever look like C! Congrats on making it through that marathon induction. I hope you recover well and that everybody settles in smoothly at home this weekend.

Congratulations! She is beautiful and I’m glad that you are ok. What an ordeal! Why are all of us with inductions have some complications? Hope your son warms up to his new buddy. Enjoy your new lovie.
holy crap! What a story. This reminds me of my induction (that failed!) and then my actual labor that after 12 hours of constant contractions I was also only at a 2. It was terrible. But my god, your epidural sounds amazing--mine failed so I felt every little thing. I am glad you were able to rest before she came, and that you are not in too much pain from that awful tearing!
Congratulations, mama. I am so proud of you and so glad she is finally here
Congrats. She's gorgeous! Hope you have a smooth recovery after a delivery like that. Dermaplast was my best friend for stitches and my sister felt the same way after her 5 lb baby came out sideways splitting her from one end to the other.

Congratulations! She's adorable. I'm sorry you had a long, rough delivery and wish you a speedy recovery! I'm sure once you get home, your little guy will warm up to baby girl and all will be fine with your new addition.

She's adorable! Congratulations!
I had to be taken away from the baby right after giving birth to remove the placenta, and it definitely sucked not getting that time with her. I hope you recover quickly!

So many congrats! Please try not to worry too much about older sibling reactions. My DS was similar for a day or so, and then basically doted on his sister from then on. It was just a shock at first, I think. Hopefully it is similar for you!
