Based upon recommendations here, I found running leggings/capris that I love made by 90 Degrees by Reflex.
Now, I need help with shorts. 90 Degrees makes some but they slide down on my stomach and ride up in the crotch. This may be because they're too big... not sure. My pants are a medium and my shorts are a large... so I will try them in a medium as well, but the other thing I don't like about them is that they're not very long and I want my butt covered.
Ideally, I would like a pair of compression shorts with the loose little joggy shorts over top. All the ones I've tried aren't really compression on the spandex layer. I need the compression to hold my jiggly gut in place.
So, looking for recommendations of actual compression shorts in 5-8" inseam length with the loose little shorts over, so my butt is covered. TIA!
I went to 3 places on my lunch break today looking for something that fits the bill - long compression shorts with loose shorts overtop and found nothing. But I got an idea... would this work or is it too weird?
What if I got a pair of men's Under Armour heat gear compression boxer briefs and throw a pair of little shorts over top? Ugh. Why am I so picky
Athleta 2:1s are my go tos. Here is the current version, but i will say that a version from 3-4 years ago is still my favorite. I don't like wearing compression shorts with little shorts during the summer, it is too hot and they are too tight.

Running shorts are the bane of my existence. I'm tall, so I don't/can't wear super short shorts (which most running shorts are super short on me). I prefer ones with some sort of pockets. I have SO MANY that are "just ok" (barely) because the ones I love are 3-4 years old and they apparently don't make them anymore.

I was going to recommend my favorite cheapy running shorts from Old Navy - they don't have the over-short, but if that was negotiable they're otherwise fantastic. Nice amount of compression, high waist, POCKETS, cheap.
BUT THEY NO LONGER HAVE POCKETS AND NOW EVERYTHING IS AWFUL.
The ones I have in the style you like are now discontinued athleta, so I'm just all around no help whatsoever, but wanted to come yell about pockets.

Wines and I are running shorts twins. I've seen her at the start of many a race where we are wearing the same shorts.
wawa WHY WOULD THEY REMOVE POCKETS? THAT IS TERRIBLE!!
I KNOW!!! I'm mad enough I tweeted at them about it. And that's saying something because I use my twitter for work shit. It's like 99% traffic engineering stuff, 1% WHY AREN'T THERE POCKETS IN WOMENS CLOTHING???
they still have the pockets in the crop version, but not the long shorts. STUPID OLD NAVY.

I don’t know what I’m going to do when my shorts get worn out. I save them for long runs now, because I need them to last forever.
The grip on one of my pairs is wearing out so I am starting to try other shorts in preparation for the terrible day when they all wear out, but I am not happy about it.
I LOVED a pair from Brooks with a 7" inseam but they changed the style in the newer version and I don't like them as much, but still decent. I like the waisband on this. They run a little big. They aren't as frumpy as the photos make them look:

I ordered a pair of their new 2-in-1 shorts to try them, but they didn’t work. I need to send them back. The inner shirt had a looser fit and rode up terribly on me. I guess I could try a smaller size, but I’m not optimistic.

Omg they do look so frumpy! But I think it's hard for longer shorts not to. Thank you for the suggestions!
I've also been eyeing the Chaser shorts, I believe there is a 5 inch version in addition to the 7.
I used to be a huge fan of the 7" chaser, but they changed them a little a few years ago, and now, not so much. RRS has a version of their own brand that i like enough too, better than the newer chaser.

I always forget about RRS, just checked those shorts out, they look promising. I'll have to order some to try. I like the zip pockets, and of course the soft yoga-ish waistband which I wish all of my clothes had :-) Thanks!
