I had a scheduled c-section, so nothing truly out of the ordinary. We were scheduled for OR at 9:30 on Tuesday morning. We arrived to the hospital at 7:30am. Got checked in to L&D and started getting ready. They put 2 large bore IV's in (after a couple of misses and blown veins) in preparation for transfusing blood if I needed it. Anesthesia came in and spoke with us regarding my possible accreta. Talked about massive blood loss, possibly needing an arterial line, maybe needing to start a central line while in the OR. A lot of scary talk. Met the team who was going to be in there... Obviously my OB and anesthesiologist, plus another OB from my office and a gynecology oncology surgeon, and another 2 anesthesiologists. They weren't messing around. Walked back to the OR a little after 9:30. DH got dressed and ready while I was getting my epidural. Anesthesia started another IV (a freaking 16 gauge) and blew one vein in my arm and then got the other in the other arm. I was so tired of being poked by this point. Surgery started, and everything went well. No need for blood, no accreta... It was as routine as you could get, which I am thankful for. I had horrible shaking afterwards which I didn't experience with my first c-section.
Emilia.Rae was born at 10:27am, 5lbs4oz, 18 inches long. She didn't need to spend any time in the nicu and we got to do some skin to skin while they closed me up. We had to watch her blood sugars for a little bit due to her small size, but everything looks to be fine. Experience was so different this time since she was in with us the whole time, whereas DS spent a week in the nicu. I am definitely a lot more sore and having more pain this time around. I'm still taking hydrocodone when I need it. But overall things are going well. She's breastfeeding (although majorly cluster feeding right now) and we're supplementing with formula and pumped milk (but she's not a huge fan of the bottle). Big brother was giving her kisses earlier this morning, so I think all will be okay. ☺
