I can’t drink enough lemonade lately, it’s a weird craving because I usually do not like sugary drinks. I also have to get a crown today that I’ve been putting off for a year plus. Fun times.

SO.TIRED. I couldn't fall asleep last night and then I was woken up 2 hours early by a woodpecker who mistook my house for a tree
I changed my running gait and now that I'm getting higher in mileage my calves and other lower leg muscles are getting more sore. I bought this thing from REI that looks like a rolling pin. It's like a foam roller but you can use it on areas that are difficult to roll. ERMAHGAD this gadget is heavenly!
I need a weekend away from my weekend. I hosted my brother's surprise 40th birthday party this weekend and it was amazing. He was surprised. So many people showed up and it was just all around fun. However being up for the days before the party and from 7am to 145am that night I am still tired.
SwimDeep, I am sorry. Hopefully you'll find a new/better place to work. Give yourself a day to mope and then move on. (Speaking from someone who was recently surprise let go after being told "hey we have so much work we need new people, 6 months earlier".)
Thanks, neonpink ... I'm trying to come up with questions for HR...who is one person in this small company. She was upfront about sending me a termination letter for unemployment, but what do I do about my 401k? I've never had one before... And I'm racking my brain trying to think of other questions I should ask. What do you ask when you get laid off???
ETA: I've been laid off twice before in my life. The first time was not good...I had to fight for my right to unemployment. The second time was ... well, I was a contractor. So I was grateful to get anything at all. Now, I have assets that need to be handled...and I haven't the first clue what to do!

I too need a nap - I have had some amazing last 5 days... two with a guy I really like staying with me, then a music festival with new friends and old friends, then a trip to pick up kids from camp and back to the music festival to see my favorite band in the world, then off to hot springs for a night and getting back to town at 7:45am this morning. Phew, I'm tired, but I have to pack and prep for a girls' backpacking trip Friday - Monday.
I posted over on the randoms about my weekend. I nearly passed out at Kohl's yesterday, my blood sugar just dropped totally unexpectedly. Went and had more blood work done after work (had some done about 2 months ago and all was fine) and now am waiting to get into the endocrinologist to figure out wtf is going on.
SwimDeep: I’m sorry about the lay-off. These are the items I would find out about: 1- medical benefits: if you currently get them through your work how long will they last after your “last day”. 2 - be clear about your last day. 3 - find out how your separation will be listed in the company HRIS. Since you said you were laid off make sure the HRIS will reflect the same. 4 - get the contact for your company’s 401(k) and work with them. Find out what you’re vested in regarding your balance and when you have to move your funds out of their plan (you may not have to do this is important). Also, make sure you know what you need to do to roll over your vested funds to avoid any kind of tax penalty. 5 - is severance an option? Since you’re being laid off is there any kind of package to compensate for that? If so, find out how that will be paid out (avoid a lump sum because that could cause more to be withheld due to it putting you into a higher tax bracket.
I’m sorry you’re going through this. Focus on taking care of manageable tasks each day.
idahome, thank you so much! I've got a call in an hour with the HR person - I really appreciate you putting together this list of questions for me.
Honestly, this is the best layoff experience I've ever had (it feels really weird to say that). They've been up front with me about my last day (yesterday), and they're going to carry my health insurance through the end of August! My separation is listed as a layoff - there are no performance issues (they were careful to be very clear about that, which I really appreciate). AND they're giving me a week's worth of severance! (They're paying it out in a single paycheck...it's not going to be much, but I'm grateful for it.)
The one thing I need to ask about is my 401k. I'm scheduled for a callback from my company's 401k manager, and I think they'll answer most of my questions, but I'm going to go ahead and get the HR person's advice about what to do.
Thank you for helping me think through all of this out loud
