We are signing DS up for karate. Considering also signing DD up but a little afraid that will lead to us needing to adopt “Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting” as our family theme song. Also, I want DS to have something that’s his. We may sign her up for ninja lessons at a ninja gym because she’s a beast. Yesterday MIL took her and her brother to a ninja gym where she was the only kid under 10 to conquer the warp wall. She did it about 10 times. She’s 7.
I signed both elementary kids up for soccer through the town rec league. I'm really hoping practices will be at our elementary school and the aftercare staff can just walk them over (this was the case for DD last fall). Otherwise, DH works early hours, so he handles afternoon activities.
DD does karate and basketball onsite at school through after school enrichment. DS1 said he wants to do all of the same activities as DD, but we'll see what he decides to sign up for when the activity list actually comes out. DD always wants to do as many different activities as possible, but historically that hasn't been the case for DS1.
All 3 kids are also doing a gymnastics class at the same time on Saturday mornings.
This sounds like a lot, but the only day that we should need to take them anywhere is on Saturday mornings (for gymnastics and soccer games).
We still have some time, but I signed up DD2 for 2 different soccer leagues - both with Saturday games. Hoping there’s no conflict. Last season we only had 1-2 conflicts. DD1 gave up soccer a couple of years ago, which is A-OK with me. I am not a soccer fan.
I’m also thinking of signing both kids up for tennis if I can get them in at the same time. We are working around piano lessons so hoping it will work out.

DS starts official football practice on 8/19. He just started doing football conditioning (which is a couple nights a week) with a small group of kids to get in football shape, but conditioning will stop once practices start.
DD has her first sideline cheer practice on 8/12. She's super excited. I hope she knows some of the girls on her squad. I think we'll hold off on signing up for gymnastics until cheer is done.
I signed both kids up for soccer. I'm looking forward to watching DS because he's finally at an age (9) where it's more like real soccer and it's fun to watch. I'm not looking forward to the epic fights about whether or not he has to shower. I made him sign a contract that says if he refuses to shower than he automatically accepts the consequence of not playing in the next game. I don't know why it's such a fight. It's never less than 90F here. You need a shower whether you play soccer or not!
My older daughter is going to 5th grade and that's middle school here. She can play on the sports teams. She's my non-sport kid (she hates competition, has ADHD, has never found a team sport she enjoys).
She told me yesterday that she is going to do cross country (excellent choice - she'll be great), basketball and softball. LOL. My kid is now super into sports
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Swim is done, gymnastics is done, everything is DONE! With three girls this is our only true break all year. Otherwise we are almost always in at least one thing for one kid.
I am going to enjoy one month of nothing until it all starts again in full force next month.
Gym practices are switching for the rest of the month. Pre-Team will practice with level 3 on Mon & Wed and then have their own practice on Thursday. Her coach really wants them to compete starting in October but feels they need the extra hours to finish getting things down. As of right now I can't see how DD could be ready to compete in 6 weeks. Guess we will find out at the end of the month what September is going to look like.

DD1 took a month break from horse riding after barn camp and will return to that in a week. She goes twice a month. She also does morning mile run at school most days. She isn’t a planned activities kid so that’s plenty for her. DD2 is in swimming lessons. She’s doing great and loves it. I think she may enjoy a rec team next year.

Other than Karate we have nothing and we're going to continue with nothing for a while. Neither kid wants to do soccer so I'm not going to make them. The only change could be if DD's class does soccer and she decides she wants to do it with classmates. I'm not holding my breath though!

DS did not want to do soccer this year and he is too young for football. I didn't fight him on soccer since I didn't really feel like carting him around and also fighting him to go. I would like to try to find swim lessons for him. My BFF had her son in lessons over fall and winter at a local university. He is also going to be taking art lessons to save my niece's spot during volleyball season.
I feel like starting real school is enough activity haha
DS went select for soccer and we have practice at 5pm TWTH for 1.5 hours each day. Life is fixing to be really hectic. DD wants to do Basketball and that starts mid October plus Scouts. It's going to be fun 😊
Soccer starts the week of Aug 12. I asked that the kids be the same night, so it is Tues nights 5:30-7:30. One kid practice and then the other. DH is assistant coach, but who knows if that will last if he goes back to consulting. So maybe I can drop off DD and then swap kids and then pick up DS or something where I am not sitting there for 2 hours.
Monday night is dance, but that starts after labor day. That is it for Fall except scouts for both kids. Scouts is Tues night for Girl Scouts but only monthly and it starts at 6:30, so maybe she leaves soccer early once a month for 2-3 months. So basically Tues will suck, but the rest of the days will be fine ish hopefully. Dance is 5:45-6:30, and I can drop off. With DS being 9, maybe I can leave him home for some of DD's drop offs and pick ups. I had this problem during basketball also last year. Maybe Tuesdays become take out tuesdays. The McDonalds sucks around here (gave me kid's meals minus the nuggets), so my options are hot dogs or jimmy johns.
Both kids have swim on Saturday mornings. DS has soccer this fall, although we don't have a schedule yet. And cut scouts twice a month. DD doesn't have anything on the books other than swim. I am looking in to a gymnastics class for her, and a rock climbing class for him. They are just all so early that they don't work very well with working parent schedules.
Question for you all. Would you sign up for more semi- private swim lessons or start Sunday school?
Semi private is Sunday morning. They made a lot of progress in the last 3 lessons, and have more to go. Safety is important. Swimming season here is pretty much over for the summer. They probably won't be in the pool much until vacation in Dec. Maybe once or twice here or there until next summer when they go 3 times a week for summer camp. I can't do Sat morning due to conflict with soccer.
Sunday school- we didn't attend for the last year, and I wanted to start again this year. However, safety is more important to me than education.
I can do both- just have to decide on the timing. Which would you do first? Sunday School in September, and swim lessons in October?
waverly, I would do the semi-swim lessons. Once you learn to swim you don't really forget how. I would do swim until vacation time in December and them pick up Sunday school in 2020. I would rather have confident swimmers when in Hawaii so snorkeling or boogie boarding will be more enjoyable for all.
Both girls are on a break for swim. My oldest will start short course after Labor Day. My youngest will start stroke school in September,as well.
My oldest(10) is doing cross country until mid-October. She is finishing a 2 week intro to rowing and is going to try 4-6 volleyball clinics with a friend who does club volleyball. She is very high energy and struggles with the six week break from swim, so I let her try several low cost, low commitment activities.
My youngest (4) is still taking gymnastics once a week. She will stop at the end of the month and switch to dance because it's offered at her daycare.

waverly, I would lean toward swim lessons. While we regularly attend church, we do miss sometimes for sports, but I feel that we can do own Bible study at home and that doing Bible lessons or devotions doesn't need to be confined to a certain time on Sunday.
covergirl82, yes if Hawaii is still a go, and I think it is because it is all booked, then it makes sense to prioritize swimming for the fall if we want to go snorkeling. I think they can also wear a life vest while snorkeling too, but more swimming skills will help.
I am terribly awful at religious instruction. Do you have any resources?
