I finished Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. It dragged a little from page 200-300, but then picked up at the end. There was a beautiful chapter that left me in tears.
Now I’m reading a short story anthology called Everyday People.
August is my favorite month. It’s still summer, but here in Maine the nights take on a distinct fall crispness that I really love. All the summer flowers are blooming, the blueberries and blackberries are ripe for picking, and everyone gets mellower as we try to savor that last month before school starts.
I finished Empire of Storms and I'm now reading Shrill by Lindy West.
QOTW: October, which is why I got married in October. (H and I both have birthdays in May, too, so it gives us something to celebrate in a different part of the year.) It's peak fall where I grew up (NY), which is my favorite season. I love Halloween, I love apples, I love the leaves, I love the weather (even when it storms).
I finished The Nightengale over the weekend, and then read Daisy Jones and the Six really quickly after that. I enjoyed it a lot, and I guess I like that author because I loved her Evelyn Hugo book too. Daisy Jones was light and dishy enough to be fun, but had some substance that I really liked too.
I just started reading Elizabeth Warren's newest book last night. I'm not very far but I like her so much. Not only do I agree with much/most of her political stuff, but I just like her personality too, and I think it comes through in her writing style. I'm still not 100% behind any once candidate, but I'm hoping reading a couple of their books will help solidify my support.
QOTW: I love fall, so I guess September or October. Depending on when the weather turns. I love the crisp fall air and all of the colors, smells, tastes, etc. Plus I love the anticipation of the holidays being right around the corner.
I finished Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield, 2*. The writing was good but the pacing of the story was too slow. I realized after I finished the book that I had read another book by her a few years ago and had the same complaint. I am 50% of the way through Run Away by Harlan Coben.
QOTW: It would probably be October. No matter where we happen to be living the weather seems to be cooler, but not too cold by October. I love just about everything about Fall- the colors, the foods, the fashion. Plus, the holiday chaos hasn't started yet.
The Nature of the Beast (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #11) by Louise Penny - 3 stars/mystery; Definitely wasn't one of my favorites, and neither was the previous book, but I've been told the next two get much better. Normally I love this series!
She Rides Shotgun by Jordan Harper - 4 stars/fiction; a young girl is suddenly reunited with her convict father who isn't a good man but does have goodness inside him. I quite enjoyed this and it reminded me of "The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley" if you've read that (which I also enjoyed).
An Exlaltation of Larks by Suanne Laqueur - 4.5 stars/fiction; HOLY MOLY I LOVED THIS. It's over the top and yet realistic and also very adult and has some interesting LGBT representation throughout and you should read this.
QOTW:
I have always enjoyed October the most. Florida finally stops being insanely lot and is just mostly hot instead, we get like one 'fall' weather day, there's Halloween, and my son's birthday is in that month too so it's a fun month with none of the craziness yet of 'the holidays'.
I’m reading Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane, which is really good. My only complaint: I’m about 3/4 through and still don’t know what the title means.
Qotw: I think July. Summer is my favorite. By July we’ve settled into a relaxed summer routine, and school is still far enough away that I can think about lesson plans without any urgency.

I finished Before We Were Wicked and started Bad Men and Wicked Women, but it's not as good as the first. Hoping for a LOT of reading at the beach this weekend.
QOTW: August or Sept. My birthday month, and I like the start of fall/the start of the new year (in my mind more academic than true calendar). August is busy at work and goes by fast, but we always make it a point to go away for a couple of days.
I just finished Mosquitoland. It was very John Green-ish, so if you like his stuff, it’s a good one to read.
I am now finishing Do It Scared, a self-help book on different types of fears that hold you back and how to overcome them, and I am also starting Ask Again, Yes.
QOTW: As my kindred spirit Anne Shirley said, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers!”
I am reading The Wedding Party. It’s cute and fluffy and what I needed after a few heavier books.
QOTW: I love November and December. The weather is usually nicer and cooler and I love the anticipation of the holidays. I hate May-September. September is the worst. You think it should get cooler but the heat and humidity won’t die.
I have made approximately zero progress on books this week. Next week hopefully I’ll finish something!
QOTW: My favorite month may be July, in the heart of the summer, which is my favorite season because there’s so much to do. Really though, anything other than January works, because January is just the worst.
I just finished My Cousin Rachel by Daphne Dumaurier. It was ok, picked up at the end. I remember loving Rebecca in High School when I had to write a paper on it, but after this book, I had to go back and read a summary of Rebecca. <spoiler> I remember the fire scene in that one, unless Jane Eyre also had a house fire?
Looking forward to something a little more modern.
My favorite month is probably May or June. I love the early summer when everything is blooming, and May and early June are so full of anticipation and promise (for growing, summer vacation, etc) This is also why I like Fridays, anticipation of the weekend.

I'm reading The Daughters of Temperance Hobbs by Katherine Howe. I really like it but I wish I'd reread The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane before I started this because I'm forgetting things that happened in the first book that pertain to this one. Also, I should really really really be learning my lines!
QOTW: October!
October and the trees are stripped bare Of all they wear. What do I care?
October and kingdoms rise And kingdoms fall But you go on And on.

I finished Geekerella and read The Princess and the Fan Girl. Both were fairy Tale retellings which I love. They were kind of corny but still held my attention.
I started Elevation.
QOTW: July. I love summer. All the other seasons can just go away. July is right in the middle of summer so it's awesome. And my favorite holiday is 4th of July.
I'm almost done with Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates, I should finish it later today. It's interesting and motivating, but I don't think she's actually that great of a writer.
QOTW: I really like November. It's just chilly and rainy enough to be cozy without being freezing; I really enjoy Thanksgiving because it doesn't involve giving gifts but does involve eating pie; the stores have started selling eggnog; I get to engage in my new tradition of getting high and decorating for Christmas (LOL!).
