DD2 started a fever and rash last Saturday, went to the dr on Monday, confirmed it was coxsackie virus and was cleared to go back to daycare on Wednesday. Wednesday night, I felt feverish (shivering cold and then hot sweats) for a short period of time but no other symptoms. Yesterday I started to notice blisters on my hands on feet. I thought the doctor said you are no longer contagious after the fever breaks but should I avoid being out this weekend? We were tentatively planning on going to SILs who has 2 young kids.
If you’ve had it, how long before the blisters clear up? Last night they were burning and itchy and now they feel like they’re swelling up more. So gross.
This virus sucks. Definitely do not go to SIL’s. I mean her kids will probably get it one day, but at least not from you. Mine didn’t blister but it took about a week before the spots went away.
I do not understand why drs say it’s not contagious after the fever breaks, I’ve always heard the liquid inside the blisters is the most contagious, and therefore you are contagious until the blisters scab over. I worked in a daycare for years and we changed our policy to say that kids had to stay out of care until the blisters scabbed over because drs were sending kids back a day after the blisters showed up and we could not get a handle on the outbreak that way.
