There’s a 10k the first weekend of October that I would love to do. It’s a hilly paved course. I ran all the time before I had my daughter and did lots of 5 & 10k’s and a half marathon. I’m 7 months post-partum now and am getting my base up again but I have a history of a tibial stress reaction so I try to not push it. Right now, I’m doing stroller strides 3x a week during which we run a little over a mile, broken up throughout the hour class. Then I run a few times a week on my own. I would say right now I can comfortably run about 2 miles without having to stop.
I'm no expert and I don't know anything about tibial stress reaction, but that sounds reasonable to me. As long as you don't expect to really race it but just enjoy it. Sign up for it so you have it as a goal to work towards. If the training doesn't go as good as hoped, then be prepared to walk some of it.
With each kid I have mostly treated the first year postpartum as time to get in shape but with no pressure or expectations. Any competition was strictly just for fun. Letting go of my normal competitiveness wasn't easy though.

I absolutely think you can do it! Be open to the idea that you might have to do run/walk, which helps prevent stress reactions and would help you get up to that distance.
Good point- I tend to forget that not every race needs to be a RACE. Probably how I ended up with a stress reaction lol. I’ll sign up for it and just plan to enjoy it

I don't have a child, but everything I know about post partum running suggests that every woman is different (obviously but it needs to be reminded and said with love!)
Being where you are with running NOW is great! And just remember that by October you might be running the 10k total, but if not...it can be a great step up in progress!
