Because I think I'm going to need one soon! My husband and I have been in the adoption process since last spring and we got a call last week that we've been officially matched with a little girl! We've got some paperwork to process but we'll hopefully be traveling to Colombia sometime in November to bring her home.
I'm a little overwhelmed trying to figure out what we need. She's going to be 3 in December so a lot of the traditional registry stuff doesn't seem to apply. A good jogging stroller is at the top of my list though. I didn't realize there were so many different models. Is there much difference? Help! I feel so clueless with so much of this.
As for the stroller, I’d check Craigslist or local Facebook sell groups, it should not necessarily be something you’d need to buy new. I’m sure others are better versed in Bobs, but we had a cheaper Jeep jogging stroller, and that was fine. There is a distinction between a fixed and moveable front wheel, hopefully someone else can address that piece.
Congrats!!! I don't know if I would spring for a bob for an almost three year old. I see FB pictures of people using them a lot longer, but my 3 year old is almost too tall for it and doesn't like riding in it anymore. We only use it sporadically now. I might see if a friend would let you borrow one so you can see how she does before spring for one.
Don’t rule out Thule. I Thought I wanted a bob, but when we looked at them they were very big and clunky. The Thule has a nice hand brake and seemed easier to maneuver when I tried it out so I’ve asked H for one of those instead.
keweenawlove, CONGRATS! Very happy for you. We still talk about adopting in a few years and Columbia is at the top of our list of countries. Would it be okay if I reached out in a few months to ask questions?
I just got a Thule and LOVE it. I looked at both Thule and Bob and preferred the features of the Thule better.
Wow, huge congrats! I agree with looking for used BOBs as you’re likely at the end of the time period you’d be using it. We got a BOB Ironman used and it has worked well, but I was surprised to find I kind of hated running with it. Running is my me-time, so I don’t use it often. I am thankful we have it though so DH and I can both run certain races.

Thanks everyone! I'll check into the other options mentioned and see if anything comes up as used around me. Probably right about being close to the end of it's useful life, especially with it being winter when we bring her home!

woowoo Happy to answer any questions. We've learned a lot in the last 2 years and it seems that things are constantly changing but I'm happy to share what we've learned!
Congrats!! How exciting! Girls can be so much fun.
I too never really used a jogging stroller with my kids much. Storing them is a bitch when you don't have a garage or huge closets. I had a used one that we would store in the attic and break out 1-2 a year. LOL.
I would look for one second hand. If you're not part of moms listserves in your area, you can join now and keep an eye out for good deals. There are lots to be had!
Check out your local Facebook BST groups to see if you can get a good deal. I actually held off on getting a Bob or running stroller and I’m glad I did. My DS is 2 and I REALLY need the solo time I spend running. I don’t even take the dog anymore =)
Congrats!!! My mother is Colombian, what a wonderful situation for your family to welcome her!
I ditto the used Bob recs, I got our double Revolution used, they seem pretty easy to find and at least a few $100’s less than new esp if you live in an outdoorsy place (i got mine in Utah although now I am in Paris I’m sure I’ll never resell it haha). I got it when dd was 4 and ds1 was 2 and I ran with it up hills and it was fine despite them being older. I don’t think it’s that awful to store if you have a garage. I still run with ds2 who is 13mo and ds1 who is gonna be 5, he fits fine he is pretty petit though. At least take a look and see what you can find used, i wouldn’t have bought I new one for kids over 3.
ETA i apologize, I don’t know why I took this as being about double. We have the single too- now that for me is a hands down defi purchase since they can be used anywhere (zoo running trail walking normal walking haha) and easily room to grow at age 3 for sure imo.
Congratulations! Good ideas here to look at Thule. I’ll add, as I didn’t see it mentioned, that you’ll want to look at manufacture date if you get a used BOB. There’s a fix for the front wheel on earlier models, which include the used one I bought to use with my babycakes.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

Awww, congrats!
I’m not up to date on the latest BOB models, but my Revolution is over 10 years old and still going strong. I don’t think you can go wrong with this brand.
My BOB Revolution has been great, by I honestly haven’t used it nearly as much as I thought. Mainly because (as previously mentioned) the running is me time and for awhile dd would not sit for long. I also ditto the suggestions to look for a used one, as well as a Thule. Although I think I remember them being even pricier, so look for that used too. I wanted a Thule and let DH talk me into the BOB, mainly because we were not fans of the way the infant seat attached to the Thule. With that said, 1) You are past that phase. 2) We didn’t use the infant seat for that long, so I should have gotten the Thule. The BOB is fantastic, but I enjoy the smaller footprint of the Thule.
Congratulations and wishing you a smooth process of bringing her home!!! Lots of good advice here. I really like my BOB too. My 3.5 year old is getting a little tall for it, but he’s at the top of the height range for boys. He fits ok, but it’s mostly a question of whether he WANTS to go or not. 😉 If your daughter likes the jogger you’d probably get multiple years of use, but if it’s not her thing it’s tough. I’d look for used or even try to borrow one to try a few times. Then if she enjoys it get a nice one.
My girls were both reliably happy in the both until 4.5+ (that doesn’t mean I love pushing large children, though!!), so I think a used revolution would be a great option!
Just be sure you get one with the wheel that swivels. I accidentally bought a used double with the fixed wheel and I hate hate hate that thing.
Yeah, unless you do a lot of running in a straight line...my Burley converts to a jogger with a fixed wheel, and it's ok if I'm doing a straight line out and back on the road. But man if I try to hit our wiggly jogging path it's a bear
I am way way way behind but CONGRATULATIONS! How exciting! I am so pleased and happy for you, keweenawlove!
I have a BOB and I really like it, though admittedly I 1) do not use it for running anywhere near as much as I thought I would (lol) and 2) did not compare it to anything else.
It is generally really smooth for us; we live in a rural area and this weekend I took it for a trail run. I used it on a walk through the woods really easily, too. Highly recommend. Our son just turned 2 and I can see him using this for at least another 2 years. But like others said, look on facebook marketplace or other BST parent groups on FB--I see them for sale on there for $100 almost daily.
