Background: I had a kidney stone about a year ago and ended up needing cystoscopy to break it up and get it removed.
I started having a similar backache last night. It’s mild now. It is not the horrendous pain when a stone is moving, but the ache that preceded that. I’m not confident that’s what it is yet, but I’m suspicious. It could be some muscular pain, but Tylenol did absolutely nothing for it. I’ll probably wait and call if it gets worse. Any experience??
I had similar pain when I was pregnant the other week. It was a UTI. Def call your OB now before the pain gets worse. It was a Friday evening so I ended up in L&D. The doctor tapped my back where the pain was and she told me if it were kidney stones I would have screamed. Urinalysis came back that it was def a UTI. I didn’t feel better for another day or so.

I had a kidney stone at 34 weeks with DD. It was my first kidney stone, and since I had DS by c-section, I honestly thought I was going into labor. I ended up in L&D for 3 nights for pain management (ended up on a morphine PCA). The urologist I saw recommended a cysto with laser to break up the stone, but my OB was very much against it since I was so close to when I was going to deliver (scheduled c-section at 37+2). She didn't want anything happening to send me into pre-term labor. If it had been earlier in my pregnancy, she might have been okay with it. It ended up passing on its own 2 days after I came home from the hospital. The urologist prescribed Flomax for me and it was after taking it that the stone finally passed (helps to dilate the ureter to allow easier passage of the stone). It may be something to ask about.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this again. It was truly the most excruciatingly painful experience I have ever had, and dealing with it on top of being pregnant really sucked. Hopefully you get some relief soon.

I had one with this pregnancy at 7 weeks. I’ve never had one before, so nothing to compare it to but it was an ache that was constant and increasing. Mine was 5mm and blocked up the duct exiting the kidney. The pain was way worse than anything I felt during labor last time. Granted, I got an epidural around 4-5 cm but still. It woke me up in the middle of the night and after about two hours I woke up DH to take me to the ER.
Things that were different because I was pregnant: they diagnosed with an MRI not cat scan and they also did the surgery to remove it with a spinal block, no general anesthesia.
I’d call my OB either way and see what they have to say about next steps.

I don't go here, but I had a Kidney infection while pregnant, and they thought a significant sized stone. It turns out baby was sitting on my ureter. It was MISERABLE. It felt like really bad muscle pain on my side, and then the next day i was shivering cold and had to take a really hot shower, then i spiked a fever. I would recommend getting checked out. Better to get checked out and be safe! Feel better.

I was 22 weeks when I thought I was in early labor and was urinating black/dark red. It turned out to be a very bad kidney infection and kidney stone. It started as a mild back ache, but that pain became unbearable. That was probably the most scared I've ever been and my H cried all the way to the hospital. Please get checked out soon!

Thanks everyone. My pain is minimal at this point so I haven’t called. Since I’ve had a stone before I’ll know if it gets bad—I really, really hope that’s not what this is.
I had a large kidney stone last pregnancy. It wasn't moving, so no pain, but they wouldn't do the surgery to remove it til after I delivered. My instructions were that if it did start moving and I felt that pain I was to go directly to the ER. Mine was super big though so movement would've been a big deal. In your case I would probably call if the Tylenol wasn't cutting it. See what they say.

I don't go here, but have gone through kidney stones while pregnant. 2 of the 3 times I had them during pregnancies, I was admitted for pain control (5 days one time, 2 days the other) They don't want to do any kind of removal surgery when pregnant. The 5 day long time, they were going to break down and put a stent in my ureteur, but thankfully I ended up passing it before that. They did ultrasounds each time to locate the stones. Good luck!
Thanks for checking in! I feel ok although I still have a mild low back ache on one side. I have an Ob appointment Friday so if all is the same at that time I’ll inform them and then they can at least run my urine.
