One of my friends is having a really rough pregnancy and on Friday they admitted her to a hospital a couple of hours away from home, leaving her husband to manage all things home, business (they own a wedding venue) and her 13 year old son (whom she has with her ex). She's not due until close to Christmas and they told her she will remain in the hospital until she has the baby. It will now need to be a C-section and they're really hoping to keep the baby in until she's at least 32 weeks. I'm planning to go visit her as much as I can, but also realize she's going to have a ton of alone time in the hospital. I'm looking at putting together a basket of goodies to keep her busy, but am starting to run out of ideas for stuff to put in it. What kinds of things would keep you busy in that sort of situation?
Books, sudoku, word search, coloring books, a long charger cable for her phone so she can play games on it while it's plugged in, music, maybe magazines...
That's everything I can think of that would be helpful for me were I having being in the hospital that long.
This happened to my friend. i brought her books, including some of one of Carry Fisher's (she was so damn funny) and a bunch of movies. Oh, and one of those foam egg crate things to put on the bed. The bed mattress will not always be comfortable and she told me it helped tremendously.
It was incredibly stressful, so I think just being there for her to listen as much as possible.
Books and Netflix, which means she'll need a long power cable for charging for sure. If she doesn't already have netflix, you can always add her to your account (M shares his with his family, so there are 3 or 4 profiles on the account that aren't us).
If she doesn't have a library card, you could ask about signing her up, because that will get her access to a bunch of Kindle titles via OverDrive.
A comfy pillow and blanket, because hospital stuff really isn't that cozy.
If she's allowed to waddle herself to the bathroom, she might like a robe and slippers.
