I started running again. I took a really long break and am loving it again. I signed up for a half next month. I may not be fully ready but I’m not trying to PR. I just had surgery yesterday to remove my Fallopian tubes so I’m out for two weeks.

Ohhh, are we pace twins again or are you still way ahead of me since you're just generally a BAMF? (Do you remember that year we both shaved a bunch of time off our 5ks, largly in sync and then you blasted past me while I got distracted?)

lol! I do remember! Man, I was not speedy at all when I started back up and still not close to where I was but at least I enjoy it! My pace is all over the place I think. I haven’t run anything official yet but my “fast” 5 miler was 9:30 avg. One mile was 8:40 or something. When I restarted running I was in the 11s and if lucky the high 10s. Where are you?

As of this morning 11s sounds about right. But I'm guessing. I was trying to keep my hr low just to see how it felt (I used to run with some maffetone people, sounded interesting) and was meh on it. That had me doing intervals because I cannot physically run slow enough to keep my hr under 144. that ended up at 12:20. I'm ditching that and just running by feel.
Will report back on Thursday when I go for another run! Or maybe tomorrow if I'm feeling frisky. I'm hoping those 9:30s come back quickish...

Ha! Ragnar was fucking awesome, as I think they always are? I was in Van 1, which I LOVED. My legs were at the best times of day for sure. The first two were great...same pace for both, 5-ish miles each. Third leg was a shitshow. I'm not sure why I expected anything different since I ran literally three times between July 27 and the start of the Ragnar. I could barely walk on Sunday, my knees hurt so bad, which was new.
So, to sum up, it was fun, I'm out of shape, I miss being fast, and I need to get back to it because I love it so much.

Putting another Ragnar on my calendar for 2020 is high priority. I think it'll have to be a local one because the travel budget is getting eaten by Disney, but I'm doing it dammit
Hello! I haven't been hanging out here much lately, been busy and also running less. I spent the first 5 months of the year mostly trail running with a bit of CrossFit, but now I've switched back to 5x/week CrossFit and almost no running. I liked the running, but I love CrossFit. I think if I start running again it'll have to be with other people, maybe even DD (who is doing Run Club at school). I've been enjoying getting back to lifting the kind of weight I did before having DS2.
We just got back from a family trip to Vermont for the wedding of a very good friend. It was so exhausting that I got sick Sunday and still have a sore throat today. But it was so great to be there for the wedding. I don't have any sisters, so my kids have honorary aunts and this was one of them. The kids had fun too.
Hey guys. I had my surgery 8 days ago. They took 4 lbs of loose skin (and fat from lipo). I had the tummy tuck, muscle repair, hernia repair,(they lipo abdomen and flanks with tummy tuck), breast implants. And I added inner thigh lipo bc I chafe when I run.
The results are amazing so far and my swelling still has a ways to go. I’m so glad I did it. I pulled up a pic of myself from about one week after last year’s marathon and tried on the same bathing suit and the difference was more than I imagined it would be. I had a GREAT surgeon. Glad I went with him.
I can walk for now, my dr said I need to stand up straighter (you can’t help but hunch over.) He said I could lightly jog at 3 weeks. Yeah not sure that’s gonna happen. I can do more each day. Pain has been managed mostly without narcotics-I might have had 4 doses at nighttime. Other than that it was Tylenol and Motrin. I think that has helped with recovery bc I’ve been able to stay regular. There’s no room in my abdomen and I get full really quickly. Even peeing relieves some space.
I miss running and I can’t even fathom how to run or how I will ever get endurance back. It will be a long time before I can lift weights again too. But still worth it.
I fell down the stairs yesterday while carrying a load of laundry. I fell straight on my back and elbow. Ugh! I have a half in 4 weeks, so I’m hoping to heal quickly. Moving is so painful right now.
campermom, happy healing, glad you are happy with the results. Re. your endurance, your body remembers and as long as you take it slow initially you'll be back and better than ever before you know it. Hang in there!
