We're signing a contract to move forward with our bathroom reno. I'm excited and exhausted already. Timing is still TBD, but we'd like to be done before Christmas. We told them we don't want to start any work until we have 100% of things ordered and ready to go so that we can minimize delays. We'll be sharing the kids bathroom during the process, which, I'm glad we have, but at the same time, it's teeny tiny.
I thought of starting this thread because I just feel like complaining.
I’m at a client board meeting with two agenda items, and my presentation is the second one. We’re now two hours into the meeting and the presenter before me is reading EVERY SINGLE BULLET POINT on his 33 slides. As in ‘the first bullet point says...’ then ‘the second bullet point says...’. Dude, we can all read - just highlight the main points!
Mainly frustrating because my flight to my girls trip is in just over two hours. And there aren’t great other options if I miss it.
ETA - I made it! Yay!!! I realized the last time I spent a day without kids or work was Memorial Day weekend - I am so excited for this brief trip with my girlfriends!

sdlaura , oi - that sucks! It drives me crazy when people don't understand how to run a presentation.
DDOT: My in-laws are visiting from OOT starting today. They are very nice people, respectful of our parenting, etc.; BUT they are the most inefficient people I know. Even things like eating dinner could stretch for over an hour. Luckily (?) I leave on my business trip on Sunday and will be gone for the rest of their stay here, so DH can fend for themselves.
TWERK: So far this week seems to have gone better for DS. He is back sitting with his classmates, playing soccer during recess, and generally back to his happy self. He also told me that his teacher is testing him on math - they finished the last Grade 3 unit yesterday. They'll start the testing for the Grade 4 units today. So far he has gotten 100% on every test. I can't help but be amused - when we met with his teacher on Monday, she was very skeptical that he would have the higher problem solving abilities required to grade skip (which is not even what we asked for - we asked that he be allowed to work on his own curriculum in class). The kid can solve complex multi-step algebra word problems faster than DH or I - and DH is a CPA and I did finance as an undergrad.

I spoke with my supervisor last week about starting to telework. When I was hired, I was told I could telework somewhere between my 3-6 month mark. I'm now past my 6 month mark and she says they're still working on the legality of phone use from home. WTF? That is everyone's problem, not just mine, so why am I being punished? It would have been nice to have teleworked today since I'm feeling under the weather from my cold.
I'm frantically trying to sell 3 tickets to a Nick Jr. Show on Saturday. STBXH told me to buy three tickets 6 months ago and the 3 of us would go. It's the week of and Saturday is his day. He doesn't want DS to miss soccer so they're not going.
Beau and I are going to see a concert this weekend and we got a room at the venue. I'm excited and hope my cold is better by then!

We are almost 2 weeks into living with MIL and I think we are settling into our new temporary routines well. The first 3 nights were rough but we are all feeling better about it.
New house is ahead of schedule! And we've only had one argument resulting in tears lol. Turns out I was just days away from starting my period so let's blame that. Tomorrow I'm going to go pick out samples for flooring in the downstairs and flooring and tile for the shower in the upstairs bathroom.
I cant remember if I have shared this or not, but I had a mole taken out of the bottom of my tattoo on my back in memory of my dad about a month ago. They called the next week and said it was irregular and I needed to have it completely extracted. I did that on Monday. The dr that did the procedure said the dr that tested it "didnt want to call it melanoma but it was close" OH! That seems a little more than irregular but I'm kind of relieved they didn't share the severity of it over the phone then make me wait 2 weeks to have it removed. My mom had melanoma 10 years ago so I try to stay on top of spots that look suspicious. I'm just glad I found this one. I'll get the results of the additional testing next week.
I have been to the gym 3 times this month. I normally go 3x a week but moving with food poisoning the week of and huge work accomplishments the week after have made it hard.
supertrooper1, It might be state dependent, but the law changed here Jan 1 that if you use your phone at home for work, then work has to pay for your phone (actual phone plus plan), but there are no guidelines as far as if they have to pay for everything or just for the minutes that are working. Excluded from working is employees talking about their schedules with their manager, but everything else is included. I get it is so people don't get taken advantage of by employers, but the result is less flexibility to work from home.
DH's great uncle died. He was 101. Honestly it has been the summer of deaths starting with my Grandma, then DH's other uncle, my mom's friend's husband, her other friend is in ICU, and the son of a friend's cousin, and now this. I am probably missing some people too. Is it our age, like we are entering the age where the older generation are all passing away?
I decided to take tomorrow off since I am working Sunday and can't get a day off work until the following Friday. I also have to go to the doctor for an assumed yeast infection- fun. But hopefully she will get that all fixed up, and I can move on with life.
Just trying to hold onto my sanity between work, soccer, scouts, and dance, and school stuff. DH has been a great house husband working from home, but will be going back into the office probably the week of Sept 30, so I will miss my house husband. Things like grocery shopping, cooking every meal, getting the kids on and off the school bus (sometimes while on phone calls), and the lowered child care bill for them only going to aftercare 2 days a week instead of 5.

waverly , it's tricky since I'm federal and they don't have to follow state guidelines. Some use Google Voice and have that number transfer all calls to their personal cell phone. The issue there is we're not technically allowed to access Google Voice on our network so that is an issue. Chief counsel also said we should be issued phones, but currently phones aren't given to employees unless they're a 2nd line manager or above. We all wish we could just work via email. ETA: 95% of my work comes in via email and the other 5% could be shifted to email.

I would echo waverly about just trying to hold onto my sanity. I have been super busy and stressed at work since early August. On top of that, school started, sports started, and I'm still the default parent doing most of the daily things as well as appointments. (Like this morning I took both kids to the orthodontist and didn't get to work until 9:30.) Mentally I need a break. Hopefully things will start to settle down next week.
sdlaura, That is my biggest work pet peeve. Do not read me the slide. I use slides strictly as talking points or visuals.
Vent: So I get to work, and apparently someone drops the ball on spending $1500 that needs to be spent by the end of the month. Somehow it gets into my department. They want us to order brochures. I pass it along to staff because I have class and meetings. In class with 25 students, I am getting txt about @$@%#$ brochures. Is this really the biggest deal you all have going today? So now we have 40000 worth of brochures being printed. Spectacular.
Twerk: Apparently, whacking the side of the refrigerator is beneficial. When I told the guy at the store that DH whacked it, and it worked, he said well that's your thermostat. So hopefully a $74 fix, not a $1400 refrigerator.
I just have DDOTS I woke up with a headache this morning and it is slowly moving into a migraine. DD asked me if we could please go home before practice today. She says even though it is only for 10 minutes not going home makes her day seem super long. So instead of driving her from pick up straight to gym we will go home for 10 minutes to breathe. I'm really glad that I didn't sign up the tax education seminar that started today and goes through Saturday. There is no way I could sit through 18 hours of class with how I feel right now. TGIF tomorrow!

DDOT. The post a while ago about what’s on your office walls inspired me to actually hang up a colorful wall clock and painting my sister made me in my office. So I augmented the family picture and cpa license frames I had there before and gave it a little more personality.

Also ddot. Last night I made some delicious chicken and Brussels sprouts to which both boys turned up their noses. I told them they could get their own alternative and listed a few options. Ds1 (7)cried and had a little meltdown while DS2 (3) ate some string cheese. After a while ds1 came back and said “sorry for making such a big fuss about it mommy” and proceeded to make scrambled eggs for himself and his brother (with a little help). He even apologized two more times and felt bad about it!! Finally ds1 is maturing a bit and building some resilience and corrected his behavior!!!! I was jumping for joy on the inside!! And breathing a sigh of relief.

I feel really nervous posting this...please don't quote! I'll delete.
Top two are from last week after a treadmill run and before my last trailrun. My deflated As are not featured. Bottom left is 5 days post op Bottom right is 8 days post op-but so super swollen I can't zip my binder by myself and can't stand up straight tonight. Dr says my lower abdomen will go down by 50%.
You look fantastic! I can’t tell your abdomen is swollen in the picture. I hope your recovery continues well.
Thanks! I didn't know it was that bad, I asked him if I should be concerned that the entire lower part under the belly button is hard and that's when he told me I still have a long ways to go.

So right now how much time off work?
I want to get this done so bad...
I planned to go back next Thursday for a total of 12 work days or 2 weeks/2 days post op. I have some flexibility bc I do have more sick days. But my husband is leaving for a month in Oct so I want to save them. I didn’t schedule myself in anything at work until Oct 1 just in case. I think I’ll be fine to manage, but Imworried about being hunched Over. I find that people’s recoveries vary widely. I know 4 people IRL who have had it that I talked to ranged from 2-6 weeks off work.
The ones who said my plan would not have been enough also were a lot slower to manage other things compared to me like pain management, when they were able to shower alone, when they drove, how long their husband slept next to them on the recliner etc. The one who was faster to go back to work, works part time with a flexible schedule.
I think I’m on the faster end of recovery compared to a lot, but my dr also said some people go back to work in 1 week which I simply cannot fathom.

I forgot to mention yesterday that DD got braces (4 front teeth top and bottom). She was all excited until after they were on, and she realized that the reality of braces is not as fun as the idea of braces. (Although I think once they come off, she will be happy with the results.) They'll be on around a year and then she'll have a retainer for a while.

Yesterday was bad weather. I spent 3 hours in a parking lot to avoid water. At least I didn't loose my car, though. Several people did.
By the time kids got out of school, though, I was totally fine to get home. But now our district canceled school and our private school followed suit. Totally stupid!
Ok my big bitch right now - my kids are somehow the most indoorsiest kids on the face of the planet earth. Since today is a hot but otherwise lovely day I told them that we were going to do all 3 of these things, in whatever order they preferred: 1) play inside, 2) play outisde and 3) watch TV. I know, I make big plans.
Regarding outside time, you would have thought I told my son we were going for shots at the doctor. The kid absolutely hates playing outside. I feel like a total failure as a parent. The lawn guys are here now and my plan is to force him to be outside for 15 minutes.

Update on DD1’s class. I’m still a tad unsure about this teacher but she said things are getting better. They’re starting to do more activities beyond worksheets. She’s made friends. I have two weekdays a month off and I’m there volunteering with running club and generally not minding my own business those mornings, so an eye is on things. It wasn’t just us who noticed — several parents in the class commented.

mustardseed2007, my youngest is like that. She hates the heat. Her sister will play outside all afternoon. She will swim or play in the water. If there’s no water, she doesn’t want to go out until it cools off.
