So my kid is going to Hawaii with her dad mid January and I am seriously thinking about going on vacation myself that week. It will be my first truly solo trip ( I have been to France alone before getting my kid back in France but I have friends and family there so a little bit different). i am toying with the idea of going to Martinique or skiing in France.
How safe is Martinique for a solo female traveler? I have zero idea and know very little about the island but it is a french island which is why I would like to go there. And it looks pretty
im also pondering going to France to go snowboard. It will be about the same price almost as going skiing on Colorado for a 3 day weekend at a big resort including airfare (and I live in CO!....lift tickets are much cheaper and lodging seems to be pretty reasonable as well (plus no school vacations so less busy). Snowboard rental is also very reasonable and I’m thinking about just renting there although I would love to just have my own equipment. It looks like a ski bag is just considered another piece of luggage which would mean it would cost 100$ each way (looks like I could rent for the week for about $100). Anyone have any experience flying with ski equipment? Also anyone have any recs for ski areas in France that would be fun. Looking at les Menuires atm and will also ask my french friends. seems like they’ve had really good snow the last few winters while it has been a crapshoot here. Plus I like to just get out of dodge and do something new.

I’ve flown from Cleveland to Denver to snowboard. I usually fly Southwest because it isn’t any extra to fly my gear. You get two free checked bags. I bought a snowboard bag used from a ski swap and then just wrap my coat and pants around my board to help protect. I haven’t had any issues yet.
Go boarding in France if the price is similar. That would be awesome!
I went to Martinique on a French exchange trip when I was a teenager. So this is a long time ago. But it is a gorgeous country and very interesting - I love the mix of Caribbean and French culture - so awesome French food on a tropical beach etc.

I have a hard time deciding where to go....a beach vacay in the winter sounds nice but flights are not cheap (around 900 right now) and flight to France are much cheaper, but I also would have to make it from the airport to the ski area and back which may not be that easy. Both sound like a good time in very different ways. Good to hear you had a great time back in the day
