With GD, I don’t eat a lot because I can’t have the bread. But I will HOUSE some good quality proscuitto. Cold. I will usually get regular deli meat only on a toasted sandwich just to be 100% safe.
I'm not a huge lunchmeat fan to begin with...but I did have it a few times (along with hot dogs, gasp!), sometimes warmed up, sometimes not.
Wait I’m not supposed to eat hot dogs? Oops.
Haha. We are the same. I feel like I had every “dont eat” item memorized with #1. I literally can only remember a few. I thought I was supposed to get more efficient at this baby thing as I had more?! Lol

I eat just about everything on the do not eat list except for soft serve, high Mercury seafood and I really just limit my seafood in general. I feel like I'm more at risk for sickness from spinach/veggies and hummus lol.

I totally agree re:hummus and veggies. It wasn’t until over half way through my trip to Israel (the land of hummus and veggies) where I was like “ huh, maybe I shouldn’t have eaten that” but then again that would remove most of the food I ate there and since my choices were limited, better to eat I suppose!

Yes. Idgaf. I heated (usually) with #1, with the second had it occasionally, but never heated, this time I forgot that rule until like 4 months in after crushing many bologna sandwiches that I had been craving. I’m also in the boat of believing fruits/veggies are more likely to make me sick. In general (other than the high quality bologna lol) we buy nitrate/preservative free, so that’s one less thing to worry about? I didn’t know no hot dogs was a rule- they are heated! Definitely didn’t know no soft serve either.. why not that?
..I also do that cat litter boxes, drink plenty of caffeine, and take hot baths. 🤷🏼♀️
The only thing I wouldn't eat was uncooked pork like salami. I have no concerns about deli meat. It's a listeria concern which is in just about everything these days. It's all a risk and I didnt consider deli meat higher.

Evidently hot dogs are for the same reason as lunchmeat...bacteria/listeria. But you're eating them hot...soooo, I don't quite get it and thus, continued to eat them. I will 100% judge anyone who eats a cold hot dog lol (my cousin used to eat them frozen...so gross).
I've never heard to stay away from soft serve...had plenty of that this summer! The only thing I stayed completely away from was the mercury-related stuff, but, I don't really eat fish/seafood often and when I eat sushi, I don't eat the raw stuff, blech.

I decided to occasionally eat it from a high quality sub shop, and have it heated, but I have skipped the stuff sold at the deli counter, pre-packaged, or at a party or meeting when I don't know where it's from or how long it's been sitting out.

With DS, I didn't touch anything that was on the "do not eat" list. With DD, I ate it all. Deli meat (cold), raw sushi (always salmon), soft cheese. She turned out fine.
I was more leery of eating melon (and mostly avoided it) and lettuce lol.
I don’t, but I never really did before pregnant because I want a fan so thats continued to be the same.
I like that book Expecting Better by Emily Oster I believe. She breaks down the do not eat list with reasons why so you can judge for yourself what best to decide.

I eat it all but with caveats- I would get lunch meat sandwiches from a popular butcher down the street from my office where they cut it fresh for every sandwich and make easily 250 sandwiches a day so you know the meat is fresh.
I would eat sushi from my favourite fresh sushi restaurant (not an all you can eat place) which is very good and fresh and clean.
I limited mercury rich fish, but still had some.
I ate milkshakes from Harvey’s and McDonald’s all the time. Don’t care.
I didn’t really change my approach with either kid. I figured I was being cautious enough in my approach, and didn’t have any issues the first go around.
Generally only if I make a hot sandwich with it, but we have a chain here with actual pulled/roasted turkey instead of deli meat so I’ll get that there. Sushi only from trusted places and avoiding high mercury fish.
But my weight in soft serve. Had no idea that was a thing.

I eat it occasionally. Always from a place I trust. Not like a pre packaged 7-11 sandwich that sat in a hot car all day. That’s just stupid, lol. I stayed away from raw fish and that’s about it. The soft serve thing seems ridiculous to me. On vacation this summer I ate ice cream like twice a day. Eff that.
But I also sometimes enjoyed sips of DH’s beers and a glass of bubbly on our anniversary and on our little baby moon so clearly I don’t follow the rules. I drank it slowly over the course of a two hour plus dinner so I’m okay with that, not like I was doing four shots in 30 minutes or something.

Unprompted, my OB said from a deli or grocery store was fine unheated, which was a change from my first pregnancy. I have it occasionally whenever it sounds good.

The only foods I avoid while pregnant are unpasteurized dairy products and juices and raw meat. It seems like fruits and vegetables are more likely than meats to carry listeria these days. 🤷♀️
And will someone please explain why no soft serve? I’ve never heard that before.
