I finished Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks,2*. While I didn't hate the book, I didn't love it either. I started A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne. I'm only 12% into the book so I'm trying not to judge the book by my initial impressions. I am also reading The Witches by Road Dahl with my daughter.
I read A Nearly Normal Family earlier in the week. Loved it. One of my favorites of the year.
I got 30 pages into Mrs. Everything and decided I wasn't interested in the female version of Forrest Gump (in terms of the journey through the 60s, 70s, etc.). Now I'm reading The Tenth Muse. It's pretty good but I'm not overly excited about it either.
QOTW: Milky Way or the M&Ms. The only M&Ms I like are the peanut ones because they're as close to Goobers as I can get when at the movie theater.

I'm doing my Raven Boys reread before Call Down the Hawk comes out soon. I'm on The Dream Thieves.
I just finished I Wish You All The Best this morning. I have mixed feelings about it in that I didn't think the book itself was very good, but I understand it's importance.

I finished The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Scrappy Little Nobody. SLN was cute. I've always liked Anna Kendrick's sense of humor.
I'm currently reading Finale (Caraval #3). I like these books as I'm reading them but there is no pull for me to pick it up when I'm not reading it.
I've also found that I like listening to autobiographies and memoirs read by the author on audio. So I started The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo today.
I finished Harry Potter #4 and Turbulence by David Szalay (3 stars). HP was good. I liked most of the short stories in turbulence but I forgot the first story by the time I got to the last story so I didn’t get the connection at first. I also think there were a few too many stories.
I am reading The Bluest Eye for book club this weekend and just finished The Reckless Oath We Made (4 stars), Someone We Know (3 stars) and Home for Erring and Outcast Girls (4 stars).
I haven't checked-in in a while, mostly b/c I was in a slump!
Educated - 4* I thought it was good and that the media presence will help those that use religion to abuse, but it felt like something was missing. I also self admittedly have a huge issue with books where all the characters are unlikeable, so it could be that. Definitely a good book.
Butterfly in Frost - 3* I don't know what happened to Sylvia Day, but this was not the same author from the Crossfire series. It just missed the mark and didn't seem to have her voice at all. The writing was still good, but again, something was missing. It's published by Amazon and based on some internet rumors, I'm wondering if something personal happened. If you have KU I would maybe read it, but I'm mad I spent $3 in digital credits on it, even if they were free.

I just started The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. I’m only a chapter in but I always love her writing. Earlier this week I finished Saving Jemima by Julie Zickefoose, which is about her caring for and releasing an orphaned blue jay. She’s semi-local to me and I followed her blog while she has the bird, so it was really fun to have the whole story.
Qotw: why would you make me give up candy? That’s so mean. I guess M&Ms, just because they are the least interesting.
I'm listening to The Witch Elm by Tara French. I'm only ~20% in but it's definitely not what I was expecting.
I also just started The Clockmakers Daughter by Late Morton.
QOTW: I always wonder if candy makers just use way crappier ingredients now than when I was a kid or if my tastes evolved. Of those, I couple give up any. Probably the only ones I've eaten in the last 2 years, maybe twice each, are Reeses and Snickers.
Now, a high quality dark chocolate I'd have a much harder time giving up.
I'm a broken record in that I am still working on Atomic Habits and Surprise, Kill, Vanish, but I did finish The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls (it gets compared a lot to An American Marriage, and I like AM better). I also listened to Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, which was pretty short and a way to boost my numbers because I'm 7 books behind schedule.
QOTW: So long Milky Way, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
