Skip to the end: Catherine Rose was born October 3 at 7:02 pm, weighing 8 lb 1 oz and measuring 20.5”. She is very much big brother approved.
Now for the story.
Unlike DS, who came at 38+2, C was not getting out. I took the earliest induction date of Thursday at 40+1.
I went in at 9am and was still at 2cm, where i had been for nearly 2 weeks. Started pitocin around 10:30am. They didn’t check until at least 2pm, and I had only progressed to 3cm. I was so upset and frustrated. They kept upping my pit, and by 5, my contractions were bad enough that I got my epidural.
They checked me around 5:30 and I was devastated that I was still 3-4cm, but she’d come down and I was 80% effaced. Fine. So they broke my water around 5:40 or so. My epi has kicked in super quickly and I’m feeling good.
Just a few minutes after they broke my water, I feel her move and then I’m in excruciating pain on the right side. They adjusted my meds and I laid on my right side, which eventually relieved the pain. I told my nurse I had a lot of pressure and she told me to call when it got pretty constant.
Right around 6:55, o called and told her it was. She came in with a resident and a new set of nurses who were taking over. Told me that they were having trouble getting her on the monitor. So she moved it around and still weren’t finding her. Resident told me to roll onto my back. I did and they lifted the sheet. “Oh my god” and everyone starts scrambling.
“She’s right there.” HER HEAD IS OUT. How did I not know? I pushed ZERO TIMES and suddenly she was up on my chest, crying immediately. I was IN SHOCK. I pushed for over three hours with DS!
NICU came in and checked her and she did so well. I was still in shock. But I felt great.
An hour later I started hemorrhaging. They had to do an EXTENSIVE internal sweep of my upper uterus and give me a lot of medications. Luckily my epi was still working or I may not have survived the pain. It did unfortunately make me puke my brains out so that was fun.
And thus ends a pretty shocking birth story. We’re home and recovering great!
That is one hell of a unique birth story. Congrats on your lovely DD’s dramatic arrival. I hope your recovery goes smoothly and that you all get into the swing of things!
I cannot believe that I didn't realize you were 40 weeks and thought you still had like a month to go, lol.
I am SO glad she is here safe and sound--what an amazing story! zero pushing--that is the dream! Not so much the massive hemorrhaging which is one of my worst nightmares...
