I need a bright light to use for morning runs. I have a flashlight from my H that is plenty bright enough but holding it for 30-60 minutes is very annoying. I bought a clip-on hat type and it wasn't nearly bright enough. I like the idea of a hat clip, but I'm open to other options that aren't holding.
Do you like a head lamp? I go back and forth, as I can’t wear them without wearing a hat. I have a Nathan that recharges and adjusts the brightness based on ambient light. I also have a nathan handheld that recharges, but I bounce a lot and it drives me crazy. I wanted to get the Ultraspire waist light, but ended up buying crazy Nike marathon shoes instead.
Long story short, there are too many options! Pick whether you want battery/rechargeable/both, and I like 300 lumens.

I would be fine with a head lamp if I could wear a hat and it stayed on
My current one is still going strong - it's from a few years ago so I can't find a link. I want one that recharges vrs uses batteries which on my model are a pain to change. I find that over time the elastic on these wear out and if it's doesn't work on my head it I can wrap around my wrist a few times and it's better than holding something. Might be a nice alternative if you don't want to wear on your head.
I have knuckle lights. I cannot attest to how hard they are to hang on to because I haven't had to use them yet. Probably not what you had in mind, just throwing out the option.
I love my Nathan headlamp, and it's tilt-able so I have used it under a baseball type hat before although I'm sure it's dependent on the hat, the lamp, etc. If I need one on the trail I end up wearing my hat backwards and putting the light over it, which sort of defeats the purpose of the hat. With a winter hat it's obviously no problem and it's comfortable with no hat directly on my forehead as well. I've considered those waistlights or a handheld but the movement makes me woozy.

I've used a basic headlamp and strapped it around my chest at bra strap level. I liked it better than on my head and it lit the path adequately. It is a tilt-able headlamp.

H uses a black diamond head lamp. We have both used it with a hat though i try not to run in the dark. He also has a torch that he holds in his hand for trail running when there is more obstacles.
I have a head lamp that I don't love that much. It works for the most part. They more money you spend, the better they are. But for occasional night time running you can get away with spending $20-30 on a headlamp.

Having run next to secretlyevil in the dark, can confirm these things are pretty awesome. Also lots of strangers will ask where you got them.
Update: I bought a headlamp and it fit on my head and didn’t move, which is good. But it didn’t illuminate right in front of me – it just doesn’t point that way. I ended up holding it towards the ground which isn’t ideal.
secretlyevil (Or wawa since you have experience haha) – Do your shoe lights illuminate the ground in front of you? I need to be able to see if I’m about to step on something. I don’t necessarily need to see a football field down the road.

Does it not tilt down? Most head lamps have some kind of function where you can tilt it down and it will illuminate a few feet in front of you so you can see what's coming.

They have three levels for you to adjust - point up, point straight ahead and point down (scientific I know).

I'm coming in super late, but my H bought me this last year, and I freaking LOVE it. One 80 light It's $$$, but it does such a good job at lighting not only in front of me, but the periphery. They came out with a belt lamp, which my H is going to get, but I have recommended this to a couple people and they all love it as well. My 'normal' headlamp ends up making me nauseous, because I feel like the light just bounces in front of me, but the halo on this eliminates that issue for me. It stays on my head really well, and is light enough that I can't feel it when I'm wearing it. Totally worth it.
I also like that it makes me extremely visible from a distance.
I also wear it now that it's dark early when I grill outside. Multi-purpose!

Oooo...this looks interesting. Can you wear it over a visor?

Yup! I also wear it over the headband I wear when it gets cold.
Update: I bought and tried the shoe lights. I like them better than holding something and the head lamp. I don't think I'd use them for dark-dark situations. I run shortly after dusk in an area with some street lighting and they were sufficient for that.
