My doctor’s office said not start at 32 weeks because the kicks are more robust at 32 than 28. I’m 30 weeks now, and I definitely see a difference in kicks between now and 2 weeks ago. Can’t wait to see what they are like in another 2 weeks!
But yes, I’ve had those days too. People keep talking about knowing a pattern. It seems my kid’s pattern is either super active or very quiet. Now, we have more active days than quiet, but he still has an occasional quiet day.
At 26 I am feeling more consistent movements and a routine of when the baby is active versus when he/she is asleep. I haven’t been asked to do kick counts get, from what I read it should be about 28 weeks.
I would start now. I noticed my little guy slowed down a lot. It went from all day kicks to short 15 mins bursts then nothing the rest of the day. You should be able to count a certain amount within an hour.

Thanks for the advice. If I notice anything else weird between now and my next appointment I’ll call for sure. Will ask to confirm what to expect at 24w. Usually if I slow down morning for coffee, nap time, and night when kids are down, I will get a quick 10 kicks. I’m just so active the rest of the time, I can get in my head about it.

I had the same experience - I was so busy during the day at work that hours would go by and all of a sudden I would realize that I hadn’t felt him. Then I’d freak out. But whenever I just made myself stop and pay attention for a few minutes I would feel something - I just was missing it.
My friend had me start doing kick counts at 28 weeks. It helped me in those busier moments to look at the overall pattern and know that a slight change in activity didn’t matter as much.

I never did formal kick counts and wasn’t told too. I just noticed his patterns and movements. We had a 10 day period of less movement than usual and I had 4 NSTs done and had to go to the hospital. His pattern was off and movements less than normal. They were never sure what it was as his heart rate was lower than normal too but after those 10 days, he went back to normal movement and heart rate. Your baby will have a pattern and a typical activity level - definitely learn that and don’t be afraid to call if it’s off.
