Our niece is turning 6 and I am at a total loss for what to get her for her birthday! She's into Harry Potter (specifically loves Hermoine) and the Descendants (I don't even know what that is... LOL!). Help please? We usually spend around $20-25. Thx!
Do you know if she already has a scooter? Personally I’d opt for something like that over a craft kit. My kids got so many craft kits over the years and first, could nearly never do them on their own and second, never actually did them. They preferred to be more creative and having directions and such just frustrated them.
ETA: LEGO has some fun Harry Potter sets. She probably couldn’t necessarily build them on her own though, but she might enjoy playing with them after her parents build it for her. Hahah.

Sounds like my 6 year old, lol. She loves the descendants movies. There is a ton of merchandise out right now because the 3rd movie just came out a couple months ago. Dd likes the Barbie size dolls - Mal, Evie, Uma and Audrey. Costumes are also a hit especially if you get a wig to go with it. Dd is going to be bad Audrey for Halloween. If she likes music, the sound track might be fun.

DD is 7. She loves crafts. Shrinky dinks, rubber band bracelet making, little sewing kits where you make animal pillows. She's not into jewelry making, but lots of kids are. She is also VERY into Harry Potter. She is going to be HP for Halloween (And don't you dare suggest that she has to be Hermione because she's a girl. LOL) She has Dobby socks, HP jammies, lots of HP earrings. We're reading through the books now. I think she's going to get a wand for Christmas.
The Harry Potter advent calendar from LEGO is amazing. It's a few dollars more though - Target has it for $32.99.
THIS!!!! My new 7 year old and 4 year old LOVE Lego Advent Calendars. I do too. I just bought the Harry Potter one for this year, but we spent October putting together an old Lego City one. The instructions are easy enough that the 4 year old can do it with minimal help, so a 6 year old could do it without annoying her parents

Please no more craft kits.
Agree with a lot of the above ideas - scooter, squishmallows, books, barbies
DD also loves "her own" of things - notebooks, sparkly pens, lip gloss or chap stick. Also her mermaid blanket, games (Guess Who, Uno, Sorry), hair chalk, sparkly backpack from Justice, bath bombs...

My daughter loves art stuff too. And science stuff. She got a kit for her birthday that you built stuff and learned about space- it was a big hit. She also loved this make your own eraser kit- I think klutz makes it?
My 7 year old wants Harry Potter legos and board games for Christmas. She also loves squishmallows. She never does the craft kits we get (she prefers a notebook and markers for art) so they just get donated unless someone includes a gift receipt. I usually just get anything I think they may like and make sure to include a gift receipt so they can return it for something they really want if they don’t like what I picked. I would rather they return it for something else so my money is well spent instead of holding onto it and never using it.
My DD just bought her fellow 6 year old a Lite Brite in that price range. She got herself a Shrinky Dink set. She's eyeing Legos for her 6th birthday because nearly all the Lego boxes say "age 6+." A Harry Potter Lego would probably be pretty cool.

Last year the hot gifts were hatchimals and fingerlings. I didn’t know what they were either lol.
DD always wants journals, Barbie type stuff so maybe a descendent doll. Clothes are always appreciated especially stuff I know they will wear because it’s not toys I have to store.
Another vote for Legos. DD just had her party for her 6th birthday and got 3 Lego sets. 2 of them said ages 7-12, the other 6+. She's built all of them almost entirely by herself and had so much fun.
We love art kits here. Or even just art supplies like kwik dry paint pens. She's a big fan of the ORB sticker mosaics (so many options but she loved the mermaids and unicorns!).
And I am firmly in the no stuffed animals camp, lol. They just take up space.
A huge hit for our almost 7yo last Christmas was a HP training wand. You can practice spells, play tag (if someone else has a wand), and she is constantly playing with it almost a year later. LEGOs would be great, too.
Thx, everyone! We ended up sending a Descendants book and this HP book that H found (good job, H!). It's a little above her reading level, but she loved both!

aspentosh , I checked this out and it is awesome! We are planning to get them for our niece (6) and nephew (9) for Xmas. They are both obsessed with Harry Potter. Perfect gift, thanks for the rec! I wish they had Hermoine's wand, but they can both be HP.

They do have it! I know this because DD has her, H has Harry, and I have Dumbledore
