I only voted in a few categories and in many of those it was for the only nominated book that I had read. The only category I struggled with was The Huntress versus Daisy Jones and the Six for Best Historical Fiction. I thought Daisy Jones was the better book but that The Huntress fits the category better.
The only books I feel strongly about are The Priory of the Orange Tree for Best Fantasy (my favorite book of the year by far) and Recursion for Science Fiction.
Fiction: The Gifted School (I have several of the finalists on my library hold list so my vote could change later) Mystery & Thriller: The Lost Man Romance: Ayesha at Last Science Fiction: Recursion Nonfiction: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone Best Memoir & Autobiography: Inheritance Debut Novel: Miracle Creek
I'm waiting to vote in Historical Fiction and History & Biography until I've read a few more.
I’ve read hardly any of the nominees, and I tend to read a lot of newer books. I voted for The Dutch House, though I don’t think just being set in the past qualifies a book as historical fiction.

I agree! I put that book down as a write-in for just 'fiction' until I saw that it was a nominee for historical fiction. Kinda dumb, but I went with it and then went back and changed my fiction vote.
Every year I try to read what I think will be goodreads nominees but I usually end up not reading very many.
Romance: Right now I would have to vote for The Wedding Party but I have Red White & Royal Blue, Ayesha at Last, and Verity that I want to try to read before voting is over.
Sci Fi: Only one I've read is Recursion. So In always torn if I should even vote in that category.
Memoir/Autobiography: I'm finishing up Know My Name and it is really good so I will probably vote for it once I'm done.
However, I don't really think it fits this category. It was one of the more memorable reads from this year though so I voted for it anyways.
Romance: Red, White, and Royal Blue. I also liked The Wedding Party. Why is Verity in this category?? No way is that a romance. Also it was so poorly written and doesn't deserve a nod in any category.
Science Fiction: Recursion. It's the only one I read so that makes it easy but I really liked it.
Graphic Novel: Write in for Guts. Okay it's a children's book but wonderful for adults, too.
Debut Novel: Evvie Drake Starts Over. Again I haven't read many in this category so it wins by default. I thought it was cute though.
YA Fiction: Two Can Keep a Secret
Middle Grade: Guts
This proves I have been in like a year long reading slump. Haven't read much this year.
I am weird and can’t bring myself to vote if I haven’t read them all because I can’t say for sure that that is the most deserving book!
I feel like Goodreads should choose with a mix of a team that’s read them all plus running algorithms on the rankings to give them a fair vote.
Yes, I’m overthinking this.
Yeah, I think this is a bad system. I can vote for the one(s) I read, but in many cases I've only read one of the choices so I can't really say it's the best! Just the most popular, I guess.
I actually haven't read more than 6-7 of the books nominated, and the majority were under the historical fiction category (though I think City of Girls and Daisy Jones and the Six are both pretty loosely in that category). I voted for City of Girls but it was a tough call.
