I’m caught by surprise and I I’m kind of upset. I had no issues with my last pregnancy. I have to take the 3 hour next week. I know I shouldn’t feel so upset, but I’m trying to prepare myself to deal with a huge diet overhaul ugh. I’m just looking for some experience and food tips here. Update- I passed the 3 hour!
Don’t stress too much. It’s really, really common to fail the 1 hour and then pass the 3 hour. I had no idea how common it was until I failed my 1 hour.

Yeah...don't stress too much. Lots of people fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hours. Take it and then go from there once you have the results.
FWIW, I had GD and while it wasn't fun it was fine and the bonus was I got myself healthy for the first time in a while. Afterwards I went back to normal eating, but I keep telling my H I need to go back on the GD diet. LOL
I had GD with my first pregnancy, but not my second. For now I wouldn't really change anything, I'd just schedule the 3 hour test ASAP so you have the best info going forward. The 1 hour is just a screen, the 3 hour is the diagnostic. You may end up passing the 3 hour no problem, and have nothing to worry about.
With the 3 hour, if you haven't done it before, you have to do it fasted, and they draw blood 4 times: at the beginning (fasted), then you drink the drink, and then they draw blood at hours 1, 2, and 3. If you exceed the mg/dl benchmark for any 2 of the 4, you get a GD diagnosis.
If you do end up there, then I'm happy to suggest foods/etc. that worked for me. But hopefully you don't need it. The 3 hour test sucks to do, no question. Good luck.

Oh yeah---I do have tips for the 3 hour test. They'll make you sit there for the whole 3 hours. I took it at a Quest lab. They had an extra empty bed so they let me have it. I laid down and took naps. I set an alarm for each hour. It was kind of nice to catch up on sleep. They made me rescreen after DS was born and they didn't have an extra bed so I went to my car to take a nap. Best nap of my maternity leave. LOL
Also--bring something high protein to eat when you're done. I brought PB on whole wheat bread. You'll be hungry and the protein will help with all the sugar you've consumed.
I had GD my last pregnancy and didn't with my first two. The extra drs visit and monitoring glucose was a pain but in the end I learned a lot about nutrition and kept my weight in check which was great for recovery and getting my body back quickly.

I failed the 1-hr in this pregnancy and the last. I passed the 3-hour both times. Definitely bring a big, high protein snack for after. I brought a cheese stick to my first 3-hour and that wasn't enough. I nearly passed out driving back to work. For my second test I think I brought a yogurt smoothie and a protein bar. That worked much better.
My fasting was always normal. In the 60s. I barely failed the 1 hour and bombed the 3 hour.
This post isn’t just a Debbie downer, what I’m really here for is to say the diet really isn’t that bad. Unless you’re housing carbs all day, it won’t be a huge change. You still get a lot of carbs. You just have to spread them out. And you never know how yours will be. With DS I had to restrict a lot because my body just couldn’t handle white carbs. With DD I barely had to change my diet at all.
I failed my 1-hr at 165 I think and passed my 3-hr. I still try to take it easy on the carbs though, my baby is apparently huge (96-98th percentile) and they said all I can do to slow him down is lay off the carbs.

What day do you go for your 3 hour? I’m getting mine now.

Good luck! Mine is Friday and I’m not looking forward to it.
