I can't wait to watch! The final season of Man in the High Castle also came out this weekend so we are struggling with what to watch first! (or do we flip back and forth?)
We just finished through episode seven. I have to say, episode three needs a trigger warning for child death. I read about it in a season recap in a CNN article, and they weren't kidding that some people might find it highly disturbing. Aberfan Disaster.

Thanks for the warning. I just read up on it - do you think it’s possible to skip the episode and still know what’s going on?

Also it is RIDICULOUS that they cast HBC to play a 34 year old.
While I love both of the main actresses, I don't buy them in their mid to late 30s in the first episode, at all. Not even early 40s for the queen.
Edit: just looked up the age of the actress who plays Elizabeth. I sincerely thought she was older than 45. I'm 38 and felt like she was more my mom's age!
They are supposed to be in their 30s? I was placing Elizabeth at late 40s and Margaret at around 45...how many seasons do they do, though?
Two seasons before the actors change again. I read earlier today that this season spans 12 years, ending at the Silver Jubilee. No Diana at all this season.
As much as I love Matt Smith, I like the actor change for Philip. It’s really hard not to see Jack Randall every time I look at him, but I dislike both Randall and Philip so it works.

She has that look but is pretty much exactly right! She looks younger in other roles IMO but she has a mature face and has for a long, long time.
I'm 4 episodes in and am liking it, but I didn't realize they were only supposed to be in their thirties. I will say I wish I hadn't seen The Favourite because some of the faces Oliva makes as Elizabeth reminds me of her Queen Anne character.
I really enjoyed the President Johnson episode - lol.

I literally said to my H last night...um, I think she may be a bit old to play what age Margaret was in this time period, but its HBC, so I'll let it go.
I am only through ep 1 and loving it so far. This show is so good. Also, totally random, I rewatched part of The King's Speech yesterday morning and I was thinking about the part where Bertie talks about how lonely he is and how even though he was expected to represent the interests of the common people, he knew very little about the people-- juxtaposed with the scene on The Crown where Phillip orders the servant to turn up the volume on the TV.

That episode made me miss Carnivale! He’s such a good actor.
I had thought there would be a decent jump in time between seasons 2 and 3 to explain the aging and different actors. I guess I was wrong.
I decided on Friday to re-watch seasons 1 and 2 before starting season 3. I made it to the last episode of season 1 over the weekend, and since my H is out of town this week, I think I can get through season 2 pretty quickly.
I watched through E4. I think this season is really good. E4 had so much cringe in it. Philip man, what a piece of work. (I do love Tobias in the role. I too thought I would see BJR, but I think the blonde helps with that). The actress playing Anne looks quite good.
Aberfan was rough. I generally don't cry while watching movies/TV, but that one was hard. And Olivia Coleman at the end was great. Hello Emmy.
I am excited to watch more when I get home from work tonight!

I’m watching E4 right now. Cringe is the perfect word for it. Philip is not a PR guru lol.

You know, the age question aside, the casting for this show really is brilliant. As I watch the actor portraying Prince Phillip, I keep seeing the real-life Prince William in his movements and facial expressions. I would literally believe a genetic relation between this actor and the actual grandchild of the person he portrays.
I didn’t realize how fucked Britain was in 1969. I can see the parallels they’re trying to draw between then and now (and not just the UK).
Has anyone else noticed that most (if not all) episodes are ending with QEII silhouetted in a window? Obviously intentional but don’t know what it means.

I keep thinking the same thing. Their casting was spot on. I watched the actual POW investiture on YouTube this week and man alive, they got a dead ringer for Princess Anne. And even Charles, his body language is just remarkable.

I'm loving this season so far. Tobias Menzies is killing it, and the Princess Alice storyline was so good. I hope we'll get to see more of her, but it seems like they wrapped that up with a nice little bow, unfortunately.

I absolutely agree, and I see so many echos of the previous actors too.
I will say casting is amazing, but the physical similarities/stylings will onlyl go so far. So much of the realness is the caliber of actors they have - they must have all done an immense amount of character studies on the people they're portraying.

Absolutely agree. I should have said the casting combined with the work of the actors - you can really tell that they've studied their subjects AND their predecessors in the roles.

We've only watched the first episode so far, and it definitely delivers. I think the casting is great. It helps that I'm obsessed with Olivia Colman. I think she's one of the best actors working right now. OBSESSED.
