We are doing our first split stay for our trip in April 2020. I'm curious as to how others have gone from the first resort to the second resort and if you thought it worked well or not.
DH and I are considering taking the busses because they are free, but maybe just getting an Uber/Lyft is easier and worth the money? We will be going from All Star Movies to Boardwalk. We will just be hanging out at the resort on the transition day, so we don't have a schedule to keep. (Although our plan is to arrive at Boardwalk mid-morning and hang at the pool until our room is ready.)
TIA!
Update (11/25): Thank you everyone for the info and feedback! So I talked with DH, and we decided to go to a park on the transfer day. We're going to start at HS, then head to Boardwalk mid-afternoon to check into our room and go to the ESPN restaurant for dinner, then go to Epcot for the rest of the evening. That will give us a break mid-week so we don't have 5 park days in a row.

Bell services will transport your stuff for free, even refrigerated stuff. I'd probably do that and then either bus to Epcot and walk through OR bus to Hollywood Studios and Skyliner over!

ETA: I'd definitely Skyliner!
They will, but it can take FOREVER. If you anticipate needing your stuff at all for hours and hours (and hours), go ahead and take it yourself.

We did a split stay once. We went into the parks that day, so we took a bus from our first resort to the park, waited until our room was ready at the second resort, and then took a bus to the second resort. Bell Services moved our luggage.
Just curious, why did you choose that as a non park day?
I guess we didn't even consider doing a park that day due to the resort transition. Do a lot of people go to parks that day due to the time for bell services to transport luggage?

We did. It was easy to head to the Magic Kingdom the day we moved from the Boardwalk to Bay lake. When we were done we just walked over to the new hotel. I’d consider going to Epcot or Hollywood Studios and then heading to the Boardwalk in the afternoon.

I think it’s better to hang out in a park instead of a hotel lobby for 5-6 hours. You won’t have a hotel room for a few hours. What were you planning to do?

We were planning to hang out at the pool and swim.

That makes sense. I think you could use the pool at either resort.

I don’t know what most people do. We have a split stay planned for Spring Break (Riviera and Grand Floridian). We plan to go to Epcot (or maybe HS) in the morning then will switch over to the MK area. We will check in and the go to MK in the evening. This is our first split stay so we shall see how it goes. We will have a car so will probably put some stuff in the car but might let Bell Services take care of any refrigerated items.

Just be aware that Disney does not allow luggage on their busses (and I would assume Skyliner). So either you need to take it with you in an Uber or send it with bell services.
We have done it both ways and I think going to a park is easier on the transition day and then have a pool day when you have the room all day. I would call bell services in the morning at All Star to take the luggage and then go to Hollywood or Epcot that day.

Thank you - I didn't know we couldn't take luggage on busses (but I suppose that makes sense, because it would take up seats).
I appreciate your perspective, having done both. I'm going to talk to DH about going to a park on the transition day. Going to the park on the transition day would also allow a day at the resort in the middle of our trip to do some laundry and relax in between multiple park days in a row.
