Whatcha got ladies? Particularly things that don't cost $250+. DS1 got a Switch last year for Christmas which of course we had to buy games for so that ends up being like a $400+ gift. He's saying now he wants a PS4. I mean...it's ridicuous. Especially because my DS2 doesn't really care about anything but his ipad so I can't even consider it a joint gift, which would make it more reasonable.

Do you have any art classes near you that you could give them, instead of a regular present? IF not, look for an online drawing class. My DD, 13, got "Let's make art" painting class last year and LOVED it. Did it with her friends, when they would spend the night, or when she was bored. I feel like a lot of the subjects are more associated with girls and women, but maybe there is something else like it, for the kind of drawing your kids like.
Engino STEM kits look fun if he is into building/science. Catan board game. Some kind of party game for the switch like over cooked or Mario party. Flipslide and other brain teaser type games or puzzles.

My ds is asking for and getting a hoverboard and the go-kart attachment (spent $150 getting them on sale and with coupons). He also asked for a few games (24 and chess) and some sports stuff, so he's basically done.
I know the hoverboard is a novelty thing and won't really get used, but it was easy and big enough to be a main gift, so i was happy to go with it this year.

It's a super hard age. DD just turned 9 two days ago. She was so most excited for a large soccer goal, a Hydroflask, an Astros shirt, and a compass. My mom got her this game for outside where you throw a weighted rope onto a ladder for points and she has been loving that, too. Total novelty game but fun for everyone.
I’m trying not to spend a lot, which is difficult b/c everything they want at this age is $$$. He wants Xbox gift cards and nerf guns. He’s getting athletic clothes though I don’t think he’d ask for them. His teen sister is getting AirPods.

It’s such a hard age! I’d get a switch game and some smaller stuff, and tell him he can save money for a PS. Maybe give him and suggest relatives give him giftcards to a place he could buy one.
Experience gifts are also good, like a gift card to a trampoline place or arcade.

We tended to do experiences or electronics through those ages. Concert tickets for the main gift at 11, first new phone at 12 ($350 after black Friday rebates), airpods at 13, etc. Besides the phone which was a total surprise, he knows he gets a $100-150 gift plus a few sub $20 things
It's such a hard age! DS1 is twelve and still loves Legos, but my parents refuse to buy more because they think he'll outgrow them any day now. He's not athletic and not into music, which rules out a lot of common suggestions for this age group. Books, a Google Play gift card so he can buy games for his tablet, and a Fit Bit are his non-Lego gifts so far.
I have a few things- a weighted blanket, a board game, a game for the switch.
But no "wow" present.
He asked for a Lego technic set, but honestly, they are a few hundred bucks, he builds them in a couple days, and then refuses to take them apart. So they sit around collecting dust in perpetuity.
I am debating getting him a phone, but my H is vetoing it. We have said for 2 years that he would get it at the end of 6th grade (this coming June), but it would make a very exciting wow gift for him now, a few months early.
Oh, also. He is starting to care more about brand name clothes. I recently got him 2 Hollister sweatshirts and he LOVES them. So he'll probably get a few more things from Hollister for xmas.
DS is 9 so not quite a tween yet but getting close. He wants football jerseys (like actual authentic jerseys not t-shirts), Nerf Guns and he is still into Pokémon cards. He kind of cycles back and forth on Pokémon. He wants chapter books, athletic clothing, shoes, balls, sports backpacks and all that kind of gear. He isn’t into music. He is just starting to get into legos very slowly.
DS1 is almost 13. He’s getting an Apple Watch and AirPods this year. It’s really hard to shop for him - he cares a lot about clothes and shoes but is also super picky so gift cards are better for him. He’s outgrown toys, no new video games he wants etc. He’s into sports so I’m trying one of those smart basketballs this year too
