We plan on taking a family trip to hawaii this coming summer and so we signed up for the Chase Sapphire card for the miles. We had a promotion of 60k miles if you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months. We’ve been paying off the card every month and after the last month I made purchases that I thought would hit that amount, well I go in today to pay it and I only have 4,000 miles. Turns out we missed the $4,000 mark by $100 and the promotion was up like 2 or 3 days ago. I’m so mad at myself.
We quick called to see what we could do, because we bought some Christmas presents today which put us above that 4K mark, and the guy said he would escalate the issue and we would hear back. He said that sometimes when it’s this close they’ll offer an extension, but he couldn’t say for sure.
I don't know for sure, but I've found Chase to have good customer service. If they refuse, I'd threaten to cancel the card (and probably follow through!) and maybe that will push them to give it to you to keep your business.
Update- they extended it until December! Which is great, but we legit hit it ~10 minutes after speaking with them. Haha. Wheew!
Another question- I have a credit card I never use. We’re buying a house currently, so I don’t want to mess with opening/closing credit cards right now, but once we buy the house we’re going to have to buy a ton of new furniture. Would it be smart to open one up myself and get another 60000 miles? Should I close my other one? Then we would each have 2 credit cards. Does that matter if they’re not used very much?

I’m glad they extended it! Do you have the Preferred or the Reserve?
DH and I each have the Chase Sapphire Preferred and have had them less than a year. He got his first, then a few months later sent me a referral link so he’d get 15k bonus points when I signed up for mine. We each got the 60k sign up bonus. Before his annual fee hits, I plan on transferring all his ultimate rewards to my UR account and then downgrading his card to the Freedom Unlimited. I don’t want to pay 2 annual fees for the same card when he can just be an authorized user on mine.

Within the past year I’ve opened 3 cards for the points. No you don’t have to close them. When you have accounts open for longer it looks better on your credit. I did have a card automatically close recently that I hadn’t used in many many many years, but otherwise I have a lot of different cards that I don’t ever use and it has never caused a problem even when buying a house.
I feel like they might do it for you, you’re SO close!!! We have the reserve and I love it!!! You can’t really be mad at them if they don’t, though. I’d still keep it, the benefits are amazing. I don’t think they’d be too upset if you threatened to cancel, lol, I think they have plenty of business. Good luck:) 🍀
Not upset, but companies offer discounts all the time to retain customers. Credit cards are known for waiving fees if customers plan to cancel due to an annual fee. It is always worth asking.
I would wait for a referral offer and open your own with that (basically do what Trioleshot said). I open/close cards all the time for bonuses and it effects my score about 30 points at most. But, do know that Chase will only give you cards if you've opened less than 5 personal (vs business) cards in a 24 month period. I have to plan wisely for that!
