2019 Where did you go in 2019? Florida (visit family) Australia Belize Boston (visit family) A weekend away to Steamboat
Favorite trip(s)? Australia and Belize
Any disappointments? We go stuck in LAX for a night and on the way to Sydney due to weather and then the airline lost our luggage for 4 days. Since it was weather they wouldn’t put us on a new flight and the flight for the next night was sold out. DD had a freak out in the airport bc they wouldn’t tell us when we would be flying out. Thankfully I was able to get a wonderful csr on the phone who rebooked is against policy on Qantas. We basically got zero time in Sydney since we had to figure out where our stuff was and buy new items to replace what was missing. DH was freaked out we wouldn’t get reimbursed (we did) and it caused a lot of stress.
2020 What travel do you have planned so far? We are heading to: Florida (visiting family) Boston (visiting family) Hawaii (for an extended family anniversary trip) And few long weekends in Taos and Winter Park.
We typically don’t do so many family trips and I’m a bit bummed about it, but I’m sure it will be fine.

2019: London Budapest Peru Detroit Denver Atlanta LA Chicago
Favorite trip: I do a solo international trip every year and this year it was Peru. I usually book based on flight prices so I hadn’t done a ton of research ahead of time. Peru absolutely blew me away. I was only there for a little over a week and would love love to go back.
Any disappointments? Nope. International travel was a little slow for me this year. Wish I could’ve gotten to another county.
Bonus: Favorite travel photos from 2019? Will have to figure out how to post a pic from Peru!
2020: Really trying hard to save a lot this year, and I don’t typically plan trips too far in advance, so I don’t think I’ll do many international trips in 2020. So far - Visiting a friend in Midwest Spring work trips to San Francisco and Salt Lake City which I might add a couple days on Sept - got in to the Berlin marathon so will go there & hopefully add on another stop after the race
2019: Houston to visit family in April Ocean City, MD for a long weekend Road trip up to Maine, we stayed in Portland, Bar Harbor, and Providence RI on the way back New York City - single night Pittsburgh - single night
Favorite trip: Our Maine trip was awesome. It was also our main vacation for the year so I guess it wins by default! But we loved all the food in Portland and all the beautiful scenery. I also really loved Ocean City and I'm glad it's close enough that we can go back yearly without it taking away from other travel.
Disappointments: Nothing major - just tons of traffic so the driving trips took a lot longer than planned. Also looking back I wish I had done more! It wasn't a great year for a ton of time off but I'm only now realizing we didn't go to as many new places as I'd like to in an average year.
2020: We are flying to London for my SIL's wedding in just a few weeks. From there we go to Italy for a week, where we'll visit Rome, Siena, and Florence.
Not sure about anything else - we are talking about taking a trip to an AI with my parents sometime in the fall, but that is up in the air. If we do that, it might be somewhere in Mexico or if we can swing it financially I'm going to suggest Jamaica. My parents have a timeshare thing and can go anywhere, but some places cost significantly more so that limits us a little.
I also would love to find a long weekend to go to Boston. We have friends there and it's been on my list of places to see for a long time, so I hope that happens. I'm also hoping work pays for me to attend a conference in Denver, but that's totally up in the air too. I haven't been to Denver in over 20 years so hopefully I'd be able to fit in some sightseeing/hiking. I will also likely go to Houston again at some point and hopefully Chicago to see my grandma, but those hardly count I guess since they are family visits. We are also visiting friends in North Carolina in February and hopefully will return to Ocean City (or nearby) some weekend in the summer.

2019 Argentina (Buenos Aires, Mendoza, and Iguazu Falls) Punta Cana Budapest Caribbean cruise to Cartagena, Colombia; Limon, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama; Costa Maya, Mexico
2020 Rome & Naples in January Hopefully Peru in May but not booked yet If my husband has his green card by then, Colombia in September for a wedding and to meet his family. If he doesn't have his green card yet then I will probably do a solo trip to Spain for the millionth time
2019 Where did you go in 2019? South Africa in June for my 40th (Cape Town, Winelands, and safari) Weekend in Philadelphia for our anniversary Vermont for MH's birthday Multiple family visits to CT Combined work/family visit to Ft. Lauderdale St. Louis for work
Favorite trip(s)? South Africa by far. It was absolutely amazing. I just wish we had more time and money to go back and explore other parts of the country. I had a terrible time narrowing things down for just a two week trip. Unfortunately MH said I am not allowed to make him fly that far again for another 10 years!
Any disappointments? Ft. Lauderdale reminded me why I hated living there in high school!
Bonus: Favorite travel photos from 2019?
2020 What travel do you have planned so far? Puerto Rico in February A week at a villa in Tuscany with my family to celebrate milestone birthdays. We may tack on a few days in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, or a city with cheap airfare. Friends might come and meet us in CT.
Work: Miami (tentative) Las Vegas (blargh) Chicago (may have MH meet me because it's around our anniversary)
And because we're ridiculous, we also have a trip to Belgium planned for February 2021 for a sporting event.
2019 Where did you go in 2019? Visited family in FL & NOLA iceland, Denmark, & Norway
Favorite trip(s)? definitely the Scandinavian adventure! Especially thingvellir np in Iceland, Viking ship museum in Roskilde Denmark & all of our fjord cruise in Norway
Any disappointments? not really. I research the hell outta trips usually
Bonus: Favorite travel photos from 2019? will try to post when on computer
2020 What travel do you have planned so far? cleveland more family visits to FL Morocco (found a great BF deal w Intrepid travel. Done much less research than normal so hope it’s not disappointing) Minnisota (twin cities & out by a lake somewhere)
Where did you go in 2019? We rented a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains (NC) for a week We also spent an impromptu weekend in Columbus, OH
Favorite trip(s)? Great Smoky Mountains. Our cabin was immaculate and we had a breathtaking view of Fontana Lake. We enjoyed watching the fog burn off in the mornings and there were some nice sunsets too. We did some hiking and saw waterfalls and wildlife, but mostly we relaxed.
Any disappointments? I guess the biggest disappointment is that we had such a slow travel year. We were adjusting to parenthood and saving for our new townhouse.
2020 What travel do you have planned so far?
Splitting a week between Murfreesboro (we'll day-trip to Nashville) and Chattanooga in May Stopping in the Hudson Valley to break up the drive and then a week in Montreal in July Tentative plans to go to the Adirondacks with add-on days somewhere in New England in September
When we feel comfortable flying with DD then maybe our trips will get exciting again. Lol
2019 Where did you go in 2019? we went to Puerto Rico in April, then Murren, Zurich, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg and Budapest in June. Kids and I went with my sister to Steamboat Springs in July.
Favorite trip(s)? Europe was amazing...so much to see and do and the kids were awesome. PR was super relaxing.
Any disappointments? nope

2020 What travel do you have planned so far? We are going to Anguilla for spring break. Then, in June, we're going to London, Paris, Brugge and Amsterdam.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
2019 Disney World San Antonio Austin Denver Wichita (girls weekend) Ames and middle of nowhere, IA
Plus a bunch of work trips - I think I went to Atlanta 3 times, Minneapolis a couple of times, Washington DC, Anchorage, Dallas, and some other places I’m forgetting.
Disney World was probably the highlight because my kiddos (nearly 7 and 3 at the time) loved it, and it was fun to watch them experience it.
2020: St Louis (hopefully - we’ve been saying we’ll do this for the past couple of years and haven’t yet) Boston (might tack on Maine or something else as well) Fort Worth Bentonville Somewhere for our 10th anniversary (haven’t figured out where and totally open to suggestions - we’ll take kids who will be 8 and almost 4, and want to go in the summer; also relevant is we all have passports and I want to use them)

This year and next year are both lesser travelling years due to the house selling/buying saga. Can't wait for everything to settle down so we can get some travelling in again.
2019: Calais, France (wine) Hunstanton (Norfolk coast of England) LBI - this was my favourite trip as it was 2 weeks at the beach with my family.
These threads always make me so jealous of all the places I haven't been yet, and how many trips people manage to take in a year! I just can't get my act together to plan that much Super impressed by the extensive 2020 plans so many of you already have!
Where did you go in 2019? Long weekend in Provincetown (staycation-ish) Two personal trips to the Bay Area Girls' weekend in NY Peru (Lima, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Cusco, Machu Picchu) A bunch of random business trips to SF, NY, Chicago where I did get to see friends for at least a drink, if you count those
Favorite trip(s)? Peru was great, and it was the only big trip we took this year. But our "framily" is in the Bay Area and we haven't been back in a couple of years so it was really, really nice to finally get back to see everyone. We also had a big birthday celebration in honor of several of us with birthdays close together, just like we did back in the day.
Any disappointments? While I loved Peru, and especially Machu Picchu, I dealt with a lot of nausea that made it slightly less pleasant. I tend to be altitude sensitive, plus there's a lot of driving on windy, bumpy roads to get between sites.
2020 - What travel do you have planned so far? Absolutely nothing. I suck at planning ahead. I do have a work trip to Cabo coming up that will hopefully have a fair amount of down time, but I'm not really counting that since it's still work.
2019 was an insane travel year for me. We wanted to accomplish as much as we could on the west coast before we moved.
2019 Where did you go in 2019?
Celebrated New Years in Tofino, British Columbia Maui French Polynesia (Tahiti, Maupiti, Taha'a, and Bora Bora) Lake Tahoe Paso Robles Drove cross country as part of our move - hit the Grand Canyon, Moab/Arches, Denver, Kansas City, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh
Work trips to Vegas, Long Island, and NYC (3 separate times) Two trips to Massachusetts to see family
Favorite trip(s)?
French Polynesia was insane
Any disappointments? Nope! Everything was awesome!
2020 What travel do you have planned so far?
Amsterdam in January Nothing else planned since we are hoping to buy a house later this year and are both trying to get new jobs, but will probably do a couple long weekends...top contenders right now are NYC, Chicago, Montreal, and/or New Orleans

What a fun thread!
2019
Where did you go in 2019?
A weekend in Vancouver BC with my fraternity A weekend in Irvine/Newport beach with my fraternity Alaskan Cruise Miami and Bahamas/Key West Cruise
Favorite trip(s)?
The Alaskan Cruise was pretty great. We live about 20 minutes from the port so getting there was a snap! But Perfect Day at Coco Cay was spectacular. We rented a cabana bed for the day and just lounged.
Any disappointments?
I feel ridiculous for complaining about this, but this board will understand!
We booked our Bahamas cruise on the heels of the AK cruise, both with Royal Caribbean. I was so dazzled by the low price of the cruise ($260 for 5 days) that I didn't realize it was on the fleet's smallest ship. With limited restaurant and activity choices. We still ended up having a good time but having been on the 3rd largest ship to the smallest was disappointing. We finally decided to spring for a VIP experience (The Key) and it hardly afforded anything extra. Like the reserved show seating was a bank of seats at the very back of the theater. We got a soda package, thinking there would be Coke Freestyle machines, and there weren't, so we had a choice of coke, diet coke and sprite for the whole trip.
2020
What travel do you have planned so far?
We're trying to save all our pennies for our small wedding in Maui in September, and an out of state move after that. So nothing else planned, which makes me sad. But Maui, so yay for that! J is really amped up to see Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and I'm bummed that we can't fit it into the budget this year. We actually talked about delaying the move 3-4 months so we could afford a trip.

2019 Where did you go in 2019?
China, South Africa, London, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, and travelled around the Netherlands.
Favorite trip(s)?
London was amazing! I had sooo much fun and ate so much good food. South Africa is always a favourite.
Any disappointments?
I hated China. 😬😬

2020 What travel do you have planned so far?
Now that my MBA is done, we are doing the following:
Portugal, Malta, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, and Russia. Maybe even Spain if we can do it. We will also do Canada. We are going to do Christmas markets next December so perhaps Germany and France.
I don’t typically travel as much as most people on this board, so this year was awesome for me.
2019 Where did you go in 2019? Disney World Disneyland Northern Wisconsin Columbus, OH Switzerland France Ireland
Favorite trip(s)? I loved every single one! I figured Columbus would be kind of a meh destination for the work conference I was going to, but we really enjoyed it!
Annecy, France and Montreaux, Switzerland were breathtaking. Ireland was a 60th birthday trip for my mom, and we had the most incredible time. I would not do a tour again, but overall it was great. And my little guys LOVED both Disneys (we have family near one and I had a work trip near the other, which is why we did both).
Any disappointments? Nope!

2020 What travel do you have planned so far?
I think we are going to do a light travel year to hit some financial goals, but we’ll do Disney World again when we visit family in Orlando. I may have a work trip to Singapore, in which case I will likely add a couple days in Bali with a coworker friend. The rest remains to be seen!
Quiet year for travel. We had family stay with us several times this year because we were renting a house on a lake, so our place was the destination.
September- one big trip with mom and sister to southern Italy. Matera 5 night, then Calabria for 3 nights
Favorite trip(s)?
Ha, the only one I took! But it would have been the best no matter what. We went to visit my mom's ancestral towns in southern Italy. We met a 3rd and 2nd cousin for the first time and they showed us around the small town my great grandfather was born in. Also visited great grandmother's birth town. It was more than I ever could have imagined. Matera is gorgeous too.
Any disappointments?
hmmm, nope

What travel do you have planned so far? Early Feb - Scottsdale area for work conference for DH. Going a few days early to visit Sedona. Last week March- taking our 3rd nephew on his graduation trip. He picked Greece, so we'll do 4 nights in Athens and 4 nights in Santorini. End of June - Family reunion near Abuquerque, NM.
Maybe a trip with my sister in the fall. We turn 40 this year.
I was going to ask what would bring you to Fort Worth, but then I figured it out.
For a family vacation, I recommend a cruise. Everything's in one place and many have great kids programs.
For me...
2019
Ireland - favorite
Seattle
San Diego
Australia (work) - most excited about
Only disappointment is not going more places (I left out some typical family visits from my list). I try to get good deals and some places just weren't cheap enough for me to book.
2020
Nothing booked yet and DH has a new job without a lot of vacation saved up, so this might be a light year for travel. But we both have milestone birthdays, so either we're going to travel or I'm going to book something amazing for 2021... or both.
2019..... Belize dive boat Datca, Turkey Flew across the US and drove back a Uhaul Norway, Amsterdam, Belgium, France, England, Portugal and Spain Currently in Chile
2020 Rest of this trip, we hit Falklands, Uruguay and Argentina......a cruise around the horn of South America Fiji dive trip China
DH starts a new job when we get back, so not sure we are going to get another trip in other than what we have planned.....but I’m gonna try!
Trying to pick a favorite this year is impossible. The Belize trip was incredible, even though I don’t dive. Turkey, I vacationed on the coast with old friends that I have not seen since 2011. The cruise was fabulous in that I got to see some things that were on my bucket list (Stonehenge, Monet’s gardens). Chile is another world. Unfortunately, marred by the riots but in the 4 days we have been here, it has been fabulous too.

2019 Where did you go in 2019?
Ocean City, MD (fam)
NYC (solo)
Nashville/Knoxville, TN (extended fam)
NE/Canada [cruise] (fam)
Atlantic City (w/ my bestie) for a concert
Hershey, PA (same bestie), another concert
Favorite trip(s)?
We loved the NE/Canada trip, on a smaller Holland America ship. Of all the cruises I've taken, I think it was my favorite. Seemed much less crowded, I really loved the boat, and since it wasn't a tropical itinerary, it was much more the kind of trip that I like (I'm not a big fan of the beach).
Any disappointments?
Our OCMD trip had its moments. The service we got at our $$$ hotel was very bad and I didn't like the location of the room. A couple of our meals were not that great.
Bonus: Favorite travel photos from 2019?
2020 What travel do you have planned so far?
New Orleans (January, solo trip b/c we couldn't figure out childcare)
Alaska + Seattle, WA [cruise] (June, fam) [bucket list trip!!]
Yellowstone/Grand Teton (August, fam)
H is going to Indonesia in May for a work incentive trip. I can be his +1, but it's not really a destination I'm interested in, and b/c of my work schedule, I can't take off more time to go to a second location, so I'm hoping he can take his brother.
Where did you go in 2019? Singapore India for work BFE Midwest for Easter to see family Orange County/LA Safari in Tanzania Istanbul Bulgaria for a wedding
Favorite trip(s)? A safari is impossible to beat, not just in a year but in a lifetime.
Any disappointments? I found Istanbul surprisingly difficult to be a tourist in, so would recommend staying in the center of the tourist action and not "up and coming" Karakoy.
Bonus: Favorite travel photos from 2019? Afraid not; I have not yet mastered the art of uploading photos now that tinypic is gone (see: my avatar)
2020 What travel do you have planned so far? Not a thing and I hope it stays that way. @ I need to focus on getting and staying pregnant. I'm happy to put my traveling days behind me to see that happen!
We go stuck in LAX for a night and on the way to Sydney due to weather and then the airline lost our luggage for 4 days. Since it was weather they wouldn’t put us on a new flight and the flight for the next night was sold out.
WTH they were just...never going to fly you to Australia?!

WTH they were just...never going to fly you to Australia?!
They wanted us to fly standby or we could have gotten confirmed seats 2 nights later, but that would have caused us to miss our next flight out of Sydney and our boat charter. They couldn’t put us on standby AND give us a seat for some reason. Since it was weather they couldn’t do anything else supposedly- even though there was no visible weather. They did offer to extend our trip by a day, but the flight they could have put us on had an extra stop in PHX and was much longer then our original fight.

My favorite was Banff. I really loved that whole trip. Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are beyond beautiful. Emerald Lake doesn't get as much attention but we loved it!

Favorite trip(s)? None of these are stand out trips for us, but all of them were good trips.
My oldest was such a great age for seeing characters at Disney...so there was some magic there.
I want to go back and spend more time at Yosemite. I also really enjoyed Seattle. I was mostly solo with the kids in Vegas while DH was a conference during the day, and that actually turned out to be a great place for that, which I'm grateful for because I was very skeptical when we had to add that in to our trip.
Any disappointments? No

That is all that is planned thus far. H got an email from Southwest earlier this week, that he had earned a companion pass for 2020. Any flight he takes, he can book me for free! We both picked 5 places that SW flies to and are now figuring out how to maximize the benefit.
