So.. our insurance company is offering us a "free" Amazon echo auto.
#1 I don't know what this is or why I'd want one. #2 What's the catch?
I am wary about it. I had a prospect at work that makes a phone app that insurance companies offer in exchange for a discount. The app tracks all of your driving behavior. Did you get in the car from the drivers side and then use the phone while driving? That gets recorded. Phone moves while driving? Get recorded. All kinds of data points. That company flat out said (to us, not as part of their marketing strategy), that most people don't want to put it on their phone, but it's usually used for kids or fleets.
I can find zero information about what Nationwide would do with the data (if it even has access to it). Am I just being paranoid?
I don't know if that's paranoid or not. But I would assume that they want to help keep your eyes on the road and not on a screen, and that it would pay for itself pretty quickly if it prevents even a small portion of distraction-caused accidents.
