Hi all! It’s been a crazy 3 weeks here for us so I haven’t been able to post. I’ll try to keep the details to a minimum to avoid writing a novel.
At my non-stress test on December 12, my amniotic fluid dropped significantly and my blood pressure suddenly spiked. So they wouldn’t let me leave and sent me up to L&D for an induction! After a few hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing, our little boy came into the world at 2:40 on Friday, December 13th. We needed forceps because every time I pushed, he moved forward but would sink back inside in between contractions.
Then things got interesting. My heart rate and blood pressure dropped; I felt like everything was fuzzy, like I was hearing things under water. We think my heart defect couldn’t handle all the anesthesia, so some support and ending the continuous epidural was enough to bring my back. But I feel like I missed the first 1.5 hours of his life.
Then his heart rate was low during his 30 hour assessment. Lots of monitoring and consults given my heart defect, but eventually they decided he just has a low normal when he sleeps.
Then his bilirubin was high. I know it can be normal, but apparently my milk was super slow to come in and he basically wasn’t eating. He has heel sticks every day for about 5 days. We finally had to supplement with formula.
We got the all clear on his bilirubin, and in less than 24 hours, I was readmitted to the hospital with pneumonia and fluid overload / a little heart failure. When we got to the emergency room, my oxygen level was in the 70s. I spent the next 4 days apart from my little guy in the hospital.
I got home just in time for Christmas and vacation time with my youngest step-daughter. She just went back to her mom’s last night.
Oh - and I spent NYE with a stomach bug. Milk still hasn’t come in reliably given all my illnesses and medications.
But, he is amazing and perfect. I’m going to try to attach a picture, but I am not sure how so apologies if it is a little wonky!
