I wear makeup only to hide acne and acne scars. I get white pustules on my chin that leave marks afterwards. I don't wear eye makeup or anything on my lips. I don't see that changing ever. I use a drugstore foundation and I've never used anything else. I am very pale and never tan.
I feel like I should probably use something that's better for my skin and won't contribute to making my acne worse. What should I be looking for? Specific brands? Product specs? Budget is not a big concern, but not like, celebrity swag bag at the Oscars expensive lol.
You might try IT Cosmetics CC Cream. It's pretty full coverage but doesn't look super heavy. I know for sure you can get it in store or online at Sephora - not sure about Ulta/department stores though.

What's your skincare situation? 😇
I ordered Paula’s Choice after reading about skin pH yesterday. I’m currently using a Neutrogena foaming cleanser and moisturizer for sensitive skin. I have tried several acne products in the past. Before 2013, I had flawless skin. I went off the pill and got a Paragard IUD and shit went downhill. I am now back on the pill, which I thought would improve my face, but it hasn’t 😕.
IT CC cream is a good suggestion to try for a low-maintenance, good for your skin full coverage foundation.
wambam, how would you describe your skin other than acne-prone? Oily? Dry? Combo?
Oily t zone, but cheeks and eyelids can get very very dry during the winter. When I tried to go the prescription route for topical acne treatments, everything made my face painfully red and inflamed.

Other than face wash, moisturizer and acne treatment, do you use any other products in your skincare routine?
NewOrleansESF maybe you can provide some insight as well? I’m not too prone to acne so I don’t have a lot to offer.
I will say double cleanse, a good toner, and adding a heavier moisturizer for night has helped my skin tremendously.

Thank you! Does double cleanse literally mean wash twice?
It is an Asian beauty standard. The first cleanse is an oil-base cleanse, everyone has their preferences but I use a sherbet: [Banila Co.] Clean It Zero 180ml... www.amazon.com/dp/B00SY90FM2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The thought behind an oil cleanser is that it will break down dirt, oil, makeup, spf, etc. The second cleanser is the low pH cleanse like the Paula Choice you ordered. I am using CeraVe hydrating (I think that’s what it is).
Let me see if I can ding the original AB thread, NewOrleans posted some good links in the OP of the thread.

Yes, this.
I don't have recs on good foundation for acne, though I think Tarte is supposed to have some good coverage foundations.
But try changing your skin care routine to do the oil cleanser + low pH cleanser, followed by a moisturizer. Your skin should never feel dry or tight, even after you wash it. If it is, you are fucking up your acid mantle, and that can cause acne or make it worse.

Never mind! That original AB thread is scary.
This blog post may provide some insight and then I’m going to let others chime in with what they’ve found to be helpful because when it comes to AB, I am pretty minimal.
Tritto the It Cosmetics CC Cream rec. I always always go back to it. And oil cleanser changed my life during the winter.
I’ve been doing the double cleanse thing for about a week now and I think I like it. Too soon to tell if my skin is actually getting better - I’ve had times before where I haven’t had breakouts for a few weeks but it’s always come back.
I got both the It CC Cream and NARS tinted moisturizer on a recommendation from the woman at Sephora. I like how the It CC cream looks, but I’m so nervous it’s going to break me out. I’ve been using the tinted moisturizer all week but plan to use the CC cream this weekend.
As a fellow acne sufferer, the only thing I'll add to the excellent advice you've already received is to try not washing your face with a cleanser in the morning. Someone here mentioned offhand that they'd started doing this and seen good results so I tried it, and it cut my breakouts in half within a week. I just rinse my face with warm water in the shower and then moisturize before my makeup. My skin has also looked much less visibly oily by afternoon since I started doing it--I suspect because I'm not overcleansing anymore.
