Yet another life insurance question from me. My wife is a AAA member and recently got a notice from AAA about signing up for a life insurance policy with only a few short questions and no full exam. The policies are term and not incredibly large (we would do $200,000 or $300,000) but since my wife has bipolar it has been challenging to find a policy where they are eligible for coverage with reasonable rates. These rates are super reasonable and the questions aren't anything that would trip us up in my wife's particular case.
I guess my question is... what's the catch? Is this a scam? It seems to be run specifically through AAA as a group insurance deal for AAA members. Assuming it's legit, is there something I'm missing about why this wouldn't be the way to go wrt life insurance?
I had a policy with them when I left my full time job that included life insurance when I went back to grad school just so my spouse wouldn't be totally screwed if something happened. I think it was around $15 a month. Obviously we didn't have to use it, (whew) so I don't know if there would have been problems if something had happened, but it seemed fine.
We also have our home and auto insurance through AAA, and have had to use the auto insurance several times, and they have been great to work with, and so much less expensive than others for the exact same coverage. I think they subcontract it all out to different companies, so it probably varies, but that made me more confident going through them for life insurance.
