I believe he said it because so many of his supporters think the same.
Even the ones I know who supported him in ‘16 but aren’t this time support...Biden and Buttigieg. Not Warren, who is closer politically to where Bernie is. It is 100% because they don’t think she can win.
The problem is certainly centered around the sexist, OLD, white, adamantly-NON-Democrat male who is once again trying to secure the Democratic nomination. (🙄x100)
Nonetheless, a huge component to the BS-issue is that of his fanatic followers/ the Bro’s Et al, if you will. They are so damn defensive of their candidate, that I have a major feeling they will not vote for the Dem nominee when BS fails to secure the nom* (*Lord willing). Just speaking from my Tw experiences, even though I’ve tried to be more than gentle: def not the Vote Blue No Matter Who shouty-ness, but more of a please help us not have four more years of Orange Menace reasoning. However, I’ve rarely (as in with ONE single person in my 25+ attempts) had success, & get the feeling they’re gonna All-Or-Nothing it just like last year. And this even seems to be somewhat of a strategy with some interactions. As in- “Wouldn’t you rather have BS than 4 more years of Trump? And if BS doesn’t win the nom, you’re gonna have 4 more yrs of Trump, cuz none of us are voting for a nominee that’s not Bernie Sanders!” Just wondering if others have come across these ridiculous, oh-so-frustrating conversations & if anyone has any advice/ stories to share/ compare/ moan complaints about??
I haven't run across this recently. I actually have seen less of this than in 2016. In my area the (mostly white men) voters who were Bernie die-hards are pretty quiet right now. I think they are feeling that something they did helped Trump win and are a bit puppy-with-a-tail-between-his-legs, but that might be my optimism talking and they might just be closet Bernie fans this time. (shrug)
I’m fairly certain the Bernie bros on my FB have blocked me, because they’re Bernie or Die on Twitter (and don’t realize I see their posts there too).
Big ol' WTF to Teen Vogue. They'd been doing some awesome work recently.
From a Bro on my FB when he shared an article from The Hill on this story "I was seriously considering her as a viable candidate, but not anymore. I trust Bernie's track record more than I do someone who purposely mislead the public about her ancestry. Shame on you, Warren. Shame on you." So Bernie tells a leading female candidate that a woman can't win and this is his response? JFC.

I don’t believe for a second he was seriously considering her.

I have a bro friend like this. He was all in for Warren until “she walked back on m4a, and I can never trust her again. I’m 100% for Bernie now.”
centralsquare, that tweet really sums up so much of my beef with Bernie. I’m not saying that 37-year-old small city mayors should be running for president, but where was he challenging Al Gore in 2000? By that time, he’d been in Congress 9 years and was nearly 60. Where was he in 2004? He’s been talking nonstop about how he opposed the Iraq War, so it seems to me like a 13-year congressional veteran in his early 60s who had just recently voted to oppose the war could’ve been a contender. Where was he in 2008? By all accounts, the first time he considered running for for President is when he considered mounting a primary challenge to Obama. I’m so sick of leftists decrying the Democratic establishment, as though that establishment isn’t what’s gotten us the most diverse Congress in history. Fuck him.
Ugh I’m seeing a lot of people rationalizing his comment. Saying it was more an observation of society. As in, the political climate isn’t ready for a woman president.
How infuriating. Any other candidate would have gotten 100% shredded for this comment, from all sides. Bernie, somehow (much like trump) escapes it. And it’s not just Bernie bros saying that. It’s people with blue checks who should know better.
Can someone help me understand? Bernie is surging in the polls, and Elizabeth has been dropping. This election season has been going on for quite some time, but only now is this conversation being revealed. How does that square?
A tweet (so hiding) but sharing because of how it conveys my anger & frustration so Spot Freakin’ On & might fill others with comfort that we’re not the only ones who understand:

Because they had an understanding not to go negative on each other and it was just reported that Bernie’s camp is now having volunteers/workers do exactly that when canvassing for Bernie?
The latest gold standard Iowa poll that came out on Friday with Bernard in the lead solidified my decision to caucus for Warren.
I was between her and Amy. But I can not handle a world where Bernie wins Iowa. I hope he gets the attacks these last 3 weeks like the other four have gotten, which knocked them down a peg.
Also, dear lord we need to get this show on the road. This primary/caucus season has been soooo long. And we are all so nervous. I am ready for people to actually start voting so we can actually talk about something.
I think I’ll just reply to every Bro who says they will stay home if Warren or anyone but Bernie gets the nom with “Does a 7-2 Conservative SCOTUS for the rest of your life sound like a better alternative?” Because I’m really sick of people not caring about the big picture.

Most of the Bros I've encountered are cis white men, so a 7-2 conservative SCOTUS doesn't impact them* all that much.
* Except for things like mass shootings and weed, but unless they own guns or get high, that's all still part of the "big picture" that they don't seem to give a damn about.

This is weird logic. By this logic there would be no surprises or new information revealed ever during the course of a campaign and we all know that isn’t true.
If I had to guess, this isn’t some calculated campaign move, I suspect it’s staff who are pissed at Bernard’s recent antics and decided to say fuck it. Now that Warren has confirmed (again only because Bernie’s move was to deny deny deny) she’s using it to her advantage as much as possible which is basically her only move. Going negative is dangerous territory and hurts women more than men so no clue how this shakes out but being wide-eyed about it is obnoxious unless this is your first election.
Well the knives are out all over my Twitter for Warren. I hate Bernie bros so much and I don’t even like Warren (I just think without fail she always plays into someone’s hands and I’m trying to figure out how much of that is just the difference in how women are covered politically and how much of that is related to her instincts/campaign).
But anyway this obviously leaked because Bernie supporters are going negative or whatever that script was. It’s not like Warren or her campaign was like hmmm nows a good time to randomly attack Bernie!

And also like Warren or not, whatever your issue with her - if she said it happened like this, it happened like this - full stop.
She has integrity and can be counted on to interpret a conversation. If the vibe she got was that Bernard was shooting down her run because she is a woman that is what happened. Even if he used words that could be twisted to imply he meant it in general because of societal sexism if his delivery left this impression on her she is not misreading it.

The DRAMA.
Most of my Bernie loving friends from 2016 have moved on for this election, but the handful that are left are 100% like this and it kills me.
"BERNIE GAVE A SPEECH IN 89 ABOUT BEING A FEMINIST WHILE ELIZABETH WARREN WAS STILL A REPUBLICAN" is the meme I woke up to alllll over my news feed this morning. Fucking hell.
I am not a Warren fan, but I 100% believe Bernie said this. Absolutely. His ego is just beyond anything at this point. The cult of personality that follows him is almost as scary as the one that follows 45*.
I’m in NH and still not sure who I’ll be voting for. It sure as shit won’t be Sanders.
With that said, I have not had a *single* campaign call or canvasser at my door (registered D). In NH. A month out from primary.
Why would this come out now? Because Warren is dead in the water and she and her campaign are grasping at straws. I don’t believe in the least this is how this went down, and I’ve lost a lot of respect for Warren for doing it.
