I know this board is dead. But I thought I would come here to ask. My husband is about 8 months away from his current assignment ending and we have been told where he goes next has to be a forscom base for the Army. Can anyone give bases they loved being at and why or where you hated. We know for sure that some of the options are Campbell, Carson, hood, and Lewis. But we would love other base suggestions because he can ask his assignment person for them.
Carson: My H did not like the unit he was in and felt like it ruined his time there. I liked the Army resources and the ACS team and programs are amazing. If you have little ones, the Nurturing Center was a great way to get out and learn parenting skills as a first timer. There are 4 bases in the area so the city is huge. There is a lot to do and see if you like to explore, or don't mind driving.
JBLM: I am a WA native and love the state but did not spend a lot of time around here. It was expensive for housing and currently a lot of families are displaced due to mold issues with on base housing. The area is beautiful, traffic is heavy, and there are a lot of great travel opportunities such as BC, Alaskan ferry ride, whale watching, old bases turned into state parks, and just so green and lovely.
The base is giant due to it being two merged bases. It has 2 PXs, 2 Commissaries, etc. Madigan Hospital is very large and they have a few off base satellite clinics to decrease traffic/split it up.
Let me know if you may have more specific questions about either base. I was around JBLm for 2 months before relocating to Whidby.

Thanks aquatica
He decided to email asking for jblm Sam Houston (very unlikely like a .001 percent chance) and Bragg since they all have ivf clinics. I am hoping for jblm. He is nervous about being that far from family but I don't care lol. I should add we are normally a day or two drive away for either side of our families. Jblm would be like a 3-4 day car trip to them (mine live in Texas his live in Michigan). So we would have to fly which means car rental, dog boarding issues etc. Whereas before our dogs just came with us
We were at Carson and seriously loved it. Loved the surrounding area and outdoorsy activities, so much to see and do within a couple of hours. We lived there 2.5 years and only vacationed in Colorado and still didn’t go everywhere we wanted to.
H was at school at Fort Sam Houston for a year and we liked it there too. San Antonio is a really fun city. We aren’t really hot weather people but we still really enjoyed our time there.
We are at Stewart now and it is meh. Again, not hot weather people and we are kind of in the middle of nowhere.
We haven’t been to Bragg, JBLM, or Campbell but out of the 3 we would choose JBLM just for location. Our family is all on the east coast but honestly we don’t factor that in to our choices anymore. After 15 years we see them when we can but we’d rather live in a great location, it’s all temporary!
ilovecandy JBLM is where I did my IVFs the first time around. Back then Madigan hospital didnt have a wait period for their IVF program like some of the others do. I had a very positive experience and a successful pregnancy through them (I know you know that, but may not remember thats where I went). Let me know if you have any questions about it if you go that direction.

I did remember! I actually went back through my messages to find when I asked you about it years ago.
Update: he asked his branch manager for Lewis, San Antonio (not a forscom base so likelihood is like 0) and Bragg due to ivf clinic on base. Now we wait.

I'm glad you have so many options with IVF clinics! I hope you get one of them 🙏

I mean hopefully we only need them for a transfer but at least we have the option if we need/want to do another retrieval
Honestly we think Lewis has a high likelihood but you just never know until you get those orders
MH was at Bragg and we still live near there. It’s not terrible, but it is a super hooah very Army centric town. Given the choice I would go to Carson or Lewis.
I guess I better be ready for it because he is now slated for Bragg 😆 which neither of us thought would ever happen. We shall see if it sticks or not.
I work in Fayetteville, and agree with Stan that's it's very military centric town. Any chance you're and electrical or mechanical engineer? We're desperate for a couple of those!

Nope
We lived in South Carolina years ago. I am pretty excited for Bragg just because it is positioned for a lot of weekend trips and such like we did in SC. Plus hiking.
We just left Peterson AFB (well H was stationed there -we lived at on the northern side of Colorado Springs) - so my vote is for Carson. We LOVED it there. Our kids became expert skiers, we hiked, biked, climbed, and drank beer through three glorious years. The kids went to excellent schools and I had a fulfilling job. There's a solid chance we will go back one day. If you like the outdoors then Colorado is a dream.
We were at Bragg for 10 years and liked it well enough. We still own a house there, though we wish we didn’t, even though I loved it. I love where we are now, but there’s a lot of things I miss about Fayettville and our life there.
Check out Fay Pie Co and Boonma Thai! They’re the two places we both still completely miss.

We also loved C Springs! Though now that we are in FL, we definitely do NOT miss all the snow.
