When we bought our house, it came with a hideous brass and wood dining room chandelier. We had other $ priorities, so I took off the ugly globes, spray painted it, and called it good. Then 10 years went by, and I realized over Christmas that while the spray paint helped a lot, it's still an ugly light, especially the closer you look at it.
This is an old pic, but the DR still pretty much looks like this, except that we have a shaker style table that matches the sideboard now. We eat in there any time we have more than 1 additional person (because our kitchen table is small), so it's not always a formal meal. I'm aiming for something transitional, something that goes ok with the furniture we have, but doesn't make the room look any more traditional or formal than it already does.
The existing light is in the low 20's inches in diameter. I think something slightly bigger might be nice. Must be dimmable. I've been lusting after this one forever, but the price ($1300) is firmly no go:
I've pinned a couple others that are more reasonably priced, but I'm not finding much with the seed glass or water glass shades that I really like.
I've already spent so much time on lightingdirect.com and similar sites and just feel so uninspired. Any ideas for me?
Have you tried Lamps Plus? They have quite a few on their website that are similar to your inspiration but not exactly.. that's a really nice fixture/high bar!
We've bought several of our fixtures from them over the years and been happy with them.
k3am , yeah, I think that last one you posted was $359 at lightingdirect. It's nice. I'm just not sure I'm 100% sold on the round glass parts below each light.
I like the 2nd one you posted a little more, the one with the wood wheel. I wonder if the wood would match ok in my actual DR though.
I could also look at linear/rectangular fixtures, since I have a rectangular table. My dad made the table for me out of cherry, so it is definitely not going anywhere.
I will check out lampsplus. I did not expect this search to be so difficult!

Have you checked pottery barn? I just looked and their prices aren’t too bad (many in the $500ish range). Also check restoration hardware, they have some nice chandeliers.
From your picture, it looks like your buffet and mirrors are a darker wood than the table, so I don't think it would be out of place.
Also I remember going through so many outdoor sconces while trying to find lights for beside our garage, and it's so overwhelming. We ended up picking something just to be done with it, and now I barely even think of them. Unless you're going for a true statement fixture, at the end of the day, it will become one of those things that's just in the background.

That's an old picture, the table is the one thing that's different. Now the table, mirrors, and sideboard are all cherry and stained that darker color. The chairs are kind of a pecan stain (I'm not sure what the wood is), but they're not forever.
Our dining room is kind of a salad bowl of hand me downs. The old table and the pecan chairs were my great grandmother's. The sideboard and mirrors were my parents'. The light was there from the previous owners. I chose the paint and the curtains, and painted the trim white, but that's about all that was my own doing!
Do you have a local lighting store? We have a place that you could go, tell them what you were looking for/price, and they could suggest options and order for you. It's BBC Lighting in Milwaukee. I wonder if they would help you by phone and ship to you?
Any of these work? I also think if you find something you like but without seeded/watered glass you could probably change out the shades pretty easily.
I usually just go to the Kichler site and find what I like. They are sold everywhere so are easily to see in person in a lighting showroom and are good value for cost in my experience. I also always find something I like! I found this at $600 MSRP:
This is smaller at $300 MSRP, but I quite like how different it is. I’ve never seen a chandelier like this before, but I think it hits on some of the style lines you like:

I have one of the chandeliers you posted - the wrought iron with the basket and candles. I love it so much. I got clip on shades from Ballard Designs. It seriously took us 3 years to find one we both love. If I ever move, I'm bringing it with me. Ours was about $700 (Hubbardton Forge). Pottery Barn chandeliers look nice, but they are seriously enormous.

Also, this is kind of random but I think the new fixture should be hung lower. "Hang a chandelier approximately 30 to 34 inches over a table with an 8 foot ceiling height. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, mount the chandelier an additional 3 inches higher for each foot of ceiling."
