Anyone stayed at either? DH's family is doing a long reunion weekend at the end of May and have decided they want an AI in the Cancun area. We will most likely stay at the resort the whole time (everyone has been to the area before and it will only be 3-4 days) so the resort itself is important. There are about 10 kids (all under 13) in the group. We want great pools and beach and decent food. Kids club etc isn’t important because all the cousins play with each other Fancy rooms aren’t important to most in the group. I wanted Grand Velas but that’s beyond the budget for the group
We were at Moon Palace last month. Overall liked it. Food was great. Service was very good too. It's huge, with great pools, but the beach area is not very nice as it has a serious seaweed problem. They run tractors up and down the beach frequently to pick up the seaweed, which doesn't make a relaxing time for parents of little kids playing in the sand.
Ive never been to Dreams but we went to the Grand at Moon Palace last year. ITA with the pp about the beach. We never sat on the beach. There are many pools though, especially if you’re willing to walk. We went before the water slides were open but we used the lazy river a lot. Bc the slides weren’t open they took us to a nearby water park for free and it was great. I’ve been looking at going back and I read the slides are open now but have a crazy tall height requirement. I know you’re not interested in the kids club but the area for teens doesn’t require supervision so a lot of teen groups go in and out. There are arcade games, mini golf, screen soccer, a little ropes course, etc. it’s great when the sun gets hot. We liked the food and ate on the early side so we never had an issue with wait times. If you have a large group then make reservations so you don’t have to wait. Oh and I used free resort credits for the spa and it was awesome. I wish I could have spent all day in there. Other downsides besides the beach are that you spend a lot of time walking because the grounds are HUGE. We went at Easter so it was crowded and pool chairs were all saved before 8am, which was super annoying. And I think there are some weird restrictions on what you can do at the Grand if you don’t stay at the Grand.
