Lori Vallow has been charged on two counts of desertion and nonsupport of dependent children, according to a release from the Kaua'i Police Department on Thursday.
Is 20/20 still on? Wow - I am out of touch with on-air TV.
Haha my H and I just had an argument because he insisted it’s on Sunday night but it’s on Friday night. I haven’t watched in a while but the commercial caught my eye.

He's probably confusing it with 60 Minutes. That's the Sunday one, right? Really showing my age here....

That’s what I said! He swears up and down 20/20 is on after Sunday night football. LOL. Maybe it used to be but for purposes of this argument I am standing by “the DVR says it’s on Friday so you’re wrong, sir”

I might actually have to watch this, I find even the timeline hard to follow. To me it sounds like they were part of a fringey religious group and then split off and became even more extreme as a couple. That’s similar to what happened with the Branch Davidians.
Idaho and Utah. Such beautiful places but they seem to breed /attract a lot of unhealthy cult-like groups. Why is that?
I am late to this conversation, but I was reading up on this a while back and found that some sociologists had actually published a paper on the geography of cults. It's from 1979, but a lot of it still reads true to me. They attribute the low cult rates in the south to an intense hostility to religious deviancy. They reference having published other papers, but my google skills aren't turning anything up. Not sure if I'm just bad at searching for academic publications, or if they didn't publish more.

If it's from the late 70's they were looking at very different geography of cults than now. California was the source of many cults back in the hippy days but that has dropped off dramatically. At the same time, the number of people observing traditional religions has also dropped.
