I know I brought this up ages ago (after finding out that the owner was going to take the lights/sell them - which they have done)...but now it's more real. I know I can't buy the exact lights that you would list (being in a different country and all) but I'd love to get ideas as to what you think would work well in these spaces.
Below is the kitchen. It's going to be changed to a dark grey with white worktop and silver appliances. We'll have spotlights around the outside edges. We will have our dining/pool table in the middle of the room. We're thinking about putting 2-3 glass globe lights over it.
Where I need help is the living space. It's very traditional and the kitchen is more modern/urban (though the cabinets we'll put in will be a shaker style in the dark grey) - I want something that will be a good transition between classic/traditional and modern (or honestly, I'm fine with more modern). Here's a pic of the space again:
We will have table and floor lights, so it won't be the only source of light in the room.
Well, I'm obsessed with this light fixture so I'm going to suggest it to you. I think it's a beautiful combination of traditional and modern and while it would look pretty dumb anywhere in my house, I think that it would look great in your space.
aprilsails, we're going to the house this evening so I'm going to measure the height of the ceilings to be able to plan the sort of light we'll have. It's two rooms open to each other (2 fireplaces - one that works, one that is closed up), so we'll use the same light in both.
mrsukyankee, I like that, especially if you are going to use the same fixture in two adjoining spaces. I have a similar one in black in my kitchen and love it.
I showed my H a couple of photos of lights and he likes the one below so I think it's what we'll end up going for:
honestly, I think this light doesn't do the room/s justice. It needs to be more unique, yet fit with the modern elements of the kitchen and tradition of the LR.
Also, will the kitchen cabinets be dark grey with white countertops and the brick will remain the same? (Love the brick)
Will you keep the Victorian-style mirror above fireplace? (also love).

artichokie, I'd love to go more interesting but my H won't (plus he's in charge of the budget (we already purchased at the higher end of our budget) and so that means the lights can't be too 'special'). This one is already quite unique for him! lol
I wish we had the mirror - they took that so we're going to have to find something new. Again, will have to work on it as my H won't want to spend what a lovely mirror costs. I'll find a way!

I convinced my H to go with the last one I posted as he finally went to look for lights on his own and discovered how much he hates most lights and can't believe "how expensive they all are". So, he finally believes me that I wasn't pointing out lights that were off-the-wall crazy expensive (no, they were on the less expensive side) and that I actually do know his taste more than he thought. Ha!

Choosing lights for our first house was so hard! This time we cheated and basically bought the same fixtures all over again (4 years later). I would have made some different choices but DH likes pretty plain stuff, and hates Edison bulbs. Glad you’ve found some good compromise solutions!
