We bought a house last June and are hopefully going to have the exterior repaired and repainted this summer. Daaaamn it’s expensive! You can’t really tell in the picture, but there’s a lot of repairs to the wood that also need to be done and the paint is peeling/faded/missing in a bunch of areas.
So I do not want to keep the current colors of bright yellow, forest green and white. My neighborhood is unique and fun and houses of every color on the rainbow exist, so nothing will look out of place. I don’t want to go super bright and out there, but I’m considering anything at this point. What do you guys think?
mrsukyankee I was thinking blue! Unfortunately that shade you posted is our next door neighbor’s (although separated by a small park) color and I think it would be weird to pick the same color. I need 3 coordinating colors, although white or cream will probably be one. But not necessarily!
I don't know where to even start with colors and what to paint which color. I liked the blue idea, but if blue is out...I'm not sure. I would just make sure it looks good with the brown roof. Seems like that top triangle that has a different texture could be pulled out with a different shade or something.
Does it have to be a bold/dark color? I love soft colors on Victorians with white trim. :-D Mint green, sage green, sea blue, light blue, soft coral/pink, light yellow, etc.
scm1011, seeing your photo again I think the condo we bought may be the exact same layout you have. Possibly the same model house?
Likely! We have a very typical house for our neighborhood. Are you on the 2nd/3rd? Ours is 1 bed and bath on the main floor and 3 beds/1 bath on the top floor. Curious where you ended up buying!

Yes, we're in the 2nd/3rd unit, in the neighborhood just north of you (well, we will be, if replacing windows and deleading ever actually happens this month).
To be relevant for this post, the paint job on our building is the traditional blue with white trim. I've seen a number of places lately that add brick red accents and also think that looks nice, similar to this but with the red more as a thin stripe around the windows:
You could try uploading a picture to Sherwin Williams (or another paint site--they probably they all have this) and doing virtual painting to try colors.
I used to live near a beautiful Victorian that was a pale lime green with cream trim and a little bit of plum (the ceiling of the porch was definitely plum, not sure if it was elsewhere). I thought it was a pretty and fun color palette.
I just realized I posted and ghosted! Sorry! I loved all your suggestions! We ended up hiring a paint consultant that specialized in authentic Victorian color schemes. My husband ended up wanting to make sure we were historically accurate, so we were somewhat limited. A lot of the colors used in 1897 were super dark, muddy and kind of drab. Lots of mustard, maroon, brown, etc. Blue, purple, light and bright colors were mostly out. We did end up finding a couple schemes we liked a lot, and the one below is the one we plan on going with....
