We re did our basement playroom to be a more teen friendly playroom/media room and we are finally almost done! It took so long omg.
Some before pics (the first few are from the seller so 5 years old - I can’t find many good pics otherwise! Then some pre demo pics from a few months ago) The coolest part of the room was the built in stage, but my boys never used it and it just turned into LEGO storage.
We gutted the room. Raised the ceiling and pipes. Dug down to put in a new sub floor and radiant heat with porcelain tile (we had done the floors and ceilings of the other basement rooms a few years ago so now it all flows in the basement). Lots of built ins to hide all the toys. Wallpapered the room and back of the cabinetry. New lighting and furniture (LoveSac sactional which is awesome - we couldn’t have gotten a regular sectional through the basement door and stairs). DH went crazy with ridiculous electronics and speakers/built in subwoofers that I think is excessive but it makes him happy.
We need to figure out art and what to put on the shelving but knowing us that will take at least a year lol
That is awesome. Our basement is in need of a redo for the same reason. We originally talked about a full gut, but may go with just an update of the 1970’s wood panelled striped carpet room to make it more teen friendly.
Looks great! Love the wallpaper. What are you doing for the Lego storage in the cabinets? We moved 2yrs ago & I still haven’t dealt with the Lego issue in our new much bigger playroom. Did you put in an egress window? That’s one thing I always wanted to do with our 120yr old house (which we now rent out).

the windows were all there already - we actually covered one with cabinetry which was painful but oh well. I’ll take a pic of LEGO storage in a bit. We have a lot of Legos lol

So this is what we do for Legos - one section is clear bins of color coded LEGO (we sort when we feel like it) and we just keep the rest in giant bins they dig through. I feel like there is no really good system that doesn’t involve endless work, so this is good enough for us. Any sets they want to keep together have to fit on the shelving available in this room or their bedrooms
I was just showing your pics to DH. Your room is long like ours. What made you decide to go with the tv on the long wall instead of short? We’d been thinking about the short wall but I like the way yours feels.

DH designed the room so I don’t know everything that went into his decision, but for us I think it just made more sense for use of space. We definitely wanted a sectional and if we had the TV at the other end we would have cut the room in half with the couch, and the space behind the couch would have been weird/wasted. We could have for a table behind the couch, but there wouldn’t have been a wide enough walkway by the couch to make it useful. We always tape scenarios out for furniture etc before we do things (You can see the sectional and tv taped out in the pictures lol) and walk around for a while to see how the room will feel.
devonpow-- LOVE it! It looks amazing!! I think we have the same navy grasscloth wallpaper
We are looking to do a big basement remodel in the next 2-3 years. We put in new flooring when we bought a couple years ago, but the drop ceiling needs to go, the duct work needs to be raised somehow, the lighting is terrible, there are different levels of spaces, and despite the size being generous the functionality is eh. We want the space to be a hangout for the boys and their friends when they are older. Please text me the info for your people
