I'm looking for a good sunscreen/moisturizer combo that is acne safe. I've used Neutrogena SPF 15 or 30 for years and its fine but I need something a bit heavier on the moisturizing. My esthetician keeps pushing Tizo but I bought some from her a couple of years ago and did not like it at all. I prefer to use a combo product rather than a separate sunscreen and moisturizer but that's another thing I've debated with her.
I’ve been happy with Cerave daytime moisturizer. I used purpose for years and the dermatologist recommended switching to this a few years ago. It’s still light but seems to hydrate well, even with all of the BHA and other acne/skin clearing stuff I put on my face.
This is timely. I saw a dermatologist (fucking finally) for my acne so everything is changing for me. I was using Paula’s Choice Clear and it unfortunately didn’t work past 2-3 weeks. Anyways, per the derm’s recommendations I’m supposed to use Cetaphil, clindamyacin, Retin-A, and a moisturizer. I’ve been reading about the Retin-A and I am nervous AF. I am trying not to get my hopes up, but maybe this will be “the thing”? IDK.

I'm glad they can try something else. I was on a high dose of Clindamyacin and didn't think it helped much, so they switched me to Dapzone, which I think is Aczone. I was on Trentoin (sp?) at night, then went off of it for a misunderstanding, now using that in addition to Dapzone twice a day, I believe that's a retinol. They're having me do it every other day, or every couple of days then work up to more.
I like the cetaphil dry skin cleanser, and I use the other C brand daily moisturizer with SPF 15. Overall it's good, but I feel like there's a layer of film on my face for a couple of hours after. I use Garnier natural vegan something day/night/mask now as well and like that better, but it has soy in it.
I’ve been doing what wambam posted - gentle cleanser, clindamycin, and retin-a and moisturizer, for four years now per my derm’s recommendation and it works perfectly for me. But also plus sunscreen. Always sunscreen!

I just started using this about a month ago and I've been really happy with. It doesn't make my skin breakout like a lot of them do. I also prefer a combo product vs a separate sunscreen & moisturizer.

Were you using the Neutrogena Hydroboost Sunscreen? I've recently started using it and find it is more hydrating than regular sunscreen.

I use a separate moisturizer but I use this tinted sunscreen instead of any foundation. I absolutely love it! It is lightweight and I just put a bit of bronzer on top.

About 15 years ago, I switched over from Neutrogena to Murad day cream. I needed something heavier, and at the time it was the only moisturizer on the market that had an SPF of 30. I still use it today.
For cleaning, I like Mario Badescu's glycolic cleanser.

Fun fact: dapsone (chemical name diaminodiphenyl sulfone) is also used to cure epoxy resins in composites. I have 55lbs at work right now.
I use Retin-A for other reasons (so not sure if this is ok for acne prone skin?) but this is absolutely the best stuff I’ve found to help with the flakey sensitive skin I end up when I started and when I’ve upped the strength. (You can buy it at target or Walgreens). My skin is sensitive anyways and it did take a long time to get use to Retin-A. It is worth it but annoying to get to that point.

I hope this works for you. Retin-A was originally developed as an acne medication. I would keep your moisturizer simple, basic and fragrance free. Cetaphil, CeraVe etc. You can reduce irritation from Retin-A by applying your moisturizer first. The Tretinoin will still penetrate your skin just fine. Fingers crossed for you!
ETA: please remember to use a daily sunscreen. I believe you're fair skinned? The Retin-A will make you more susceptible to burning.

CeraVe that's what I was thinking of!
My derm said to wash with a gentle cleanser, either Ceta or Cera and moisturize, then later once my skin dries use the Trentinoin. I always put moisturizer over that too because I'm so dry. I use a different, heavier one at night, which I think helps too.

Extremely fair skinned. My tinted moisturizer has SPF already!
I’m in my mid 40s so I’m forced to have a routine lol.
Morning - wash with cetaphil. Then use drunk elephant vitamin c serum followed by an oil free moisturizer (right now I like It cosmetics “confidence in a gel lotion” but also use kiehl’s oil free). I have sunscreen in my makeup and live in Boston where it’s freezing so even if it’s sunny I’m not outside so I don’t do extra sunscreen this time of year. Summer I use different lotion or just regular sunscreen
Evening - wash with la Roche posay purifying cleanser. 3 times a week I also use M-61 Power Glow Peel. I use Kiehl’s midnight recovery serum, skinceuticals A.G.E. Eye complex, and StriVectin tightening neck cream (hoping to stave off turkey neck! Lol)
I get occasional pimples (I’m on the pill which is good for my skin) and use Mario Bodescu drying lotion or a pimple patch when I get them
I always struggle with using a separate sunscreen when both my moisturizer and CC/BB cream have sunscreen. Do I really need a separate sunscreen? I do use Retin A. If I'm outside I wear a hat and would apply sunscreen, but just on a daily basis where I'm in my office I feel like I'm okay? idk
Looking for a Vitamin C serum. I was using Drunk Elephant and I'm curious if there is a more economical option?
I'm back to using my GloPro ~2x a week and I think it helps tighten my skin.
ETA my routine.
AM- Wash with Cetaphil. Apply whatever acid I have on hand. Right now it's this.
Follow with a Serum- currently Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior™ 2-in-1 Plumping Moisturizer + Serum.
Then Olay Complete Lotion Moisturizer SPF 15
Eye Cream- IT cosmetics.
PM- wash with Cetaphil, 2nd cleanse with Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1. Follow with above toner and serum and Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Night Cream.
2-3x week I'll skip toner and serum and use Retin A.
I was diagnosed with rosacea a few weeks ago. My skin is already super sensitive and breakout prone I was getting hormonal acne along my chin and can't be on the pill. I started spironolactone last April and it took about 6 months, but I haven't had a cystic zit in months. I don't wear make up other than mascara because everything irritates my skin and gives me hives. Most products that people rave about turn me bright red, and itchy.
I had to cut out the very few products I was using. Now, may routine looks like this:
AM: Wash with Cerave normal/dry skin face wash A rosacea cream on the spots that need it La Roche Posay lotion I have Elta tinted sunscreen that I use when out.
I used to use Drunk Elephant Vit. C and I thought it brightened my skin. But I stopped because I think it also aggravated it.
PM: Same Cerave wash clinda lotion on the rosacea spots Same La Roche Posay lotion Retin A on my forehead and cheeks and nose
I'm usually really flaky but also oily in my T zone and the above has helped me calm all of that down. No more flaking. Not as shiny.
I'm headed back to my derm next week for follow up because the creams haven't help the rosacea. She is a cosmetic derm who also give me botox every 3-5 months.
Also, sleep and hydration are big. I look my best when I have the right combo of sleep, water, retin A, and botox. Ha.
Alps79 , about the sunscreen my esthetician insists it doesn't protect enough to just have it in your makeup so I don't know. She said it comes off and won't last l;ng enough. We also live at high altitude. She thinks its really important to use a separate sunscreen. I don't want to add something else though! I always use a good separate sunscreen if I'm going to be at the pool or at my kids soccer all day but for everyday I feel like a combo product with makeup on too should be okay!
Wash: Either Aveno ultra calming foaming face wash or Philosophy Purity Toner: PixiGlow (when I use it!) Serums: Face Reality Mandalic acid and something called Diamond Brite for dark spots-not sure of brand (both purchased from esthetician) Moisturizer: Neutrogena SPF 15
At night I usually skip the serums and do the Sephora Firming sleeping cream but I don't love it. And an eye cream but I'm out and need to find something. Was using Farmacy Dew It All but I won't be repurchasing. So I need to find a new night and eye creams.
If my skin is dry I will skip the serums and put on Drunk Elephant B-hydra serum.
Also get Botox on my 11s and forehead 3 times a year or so and I take Spirolactone for hormonal acne which works well for me

How long did the purge last? Were you very dry/irritated? Were you able to continue wearing makeup? Do you do moisturizer first or last?
Purge- I wouldn’t say I had a purge bc I started so slow. I only used it once a week to start and had the weakest strength. Now I use it daily at the strongest strength. Dry/irritated- even four years later I have to be careful with it. I can’t put it close to my eyes and I have to wash my hands right after. If I look/feel even a little dry then I skip it. Using these strategies I’m never very dry or irritated. Makeup- Yes I wear makeup every day Moisturizer - I use retain a last so I don’t smear it around my eyes accidentally. Clindamycin first, then moisturizer then retin a.

I actually just switched over to Cetaphil products last weekend because my skin has been insane the past few months. It's already made a huge difference!
I get small white heads (derm says they are actually called pustules) in my t zone but any acne washes make my skin too dry. So I need an anti agin/breakout product. Going to ask for retinol when I go to the derm in a few months. Any OTC suggestions?
I have sensitive, breakout prone, dry skin
AM routine -COSRX snail mucin 96 -skinceuticals vitamin b 5 gel -Clinique 72 hour moisture surge -smashbox under eye cream/primer -bare minerals complexion rescue
PM routine -Clinique take the day off balm -cerave hydrating face wash -COSRX snail mucin 96 -skinceuticals vitamin b 5 gel -Clinique 72 hour moisture surge -Clinique all about eyes riche -Cerave moisturizing cream in the tub
My face and skin in general is extremely sensitive; it can also get dry. The less I do to it the happier it is. I don't have major acne or cystic acne. I only get a tiny whitehead or two occasionally. Everything I use is fragrance free except the Retinol. I also don't wear makeup on a regular basis--I can tell a huge difference since I stopped 10 years ago.
AM: Splash water on face and dab with soft washcloth
PM: Let water splash on face in the shower. Revision DEF Eye Cream (just started this on the plastic surgeon's recommendation) Cetaphil night cream
Every 3-4 days: Revision 0.05 Retinol (my skin can't take full strength Retin-A)
Planned for 2020: Laser skin resurfacing on my face.
