Hello Makeup Experts! I barely wear makeup and know little about it, so I thought I’d wander over here and ask the experts. My favorite lipstick (that’s like 5 years old 🙈) is finally running out and they don’t make it anymore 😢. I need something new, so I went to Sephora and Nordstrom and tried some on. OMG they are all matte, super bold and extremely dry on my lips. Is this just the way it is now? I’m used to something more glossy and natural looking. I did buy one that’s a Mac Creme lipstick, but my lips feel super dry with it on. Am I supposed to put a gloss or something on top of it? It seems like the matte lipsticks last forever (I tried some on my hand and they literally wouldn’t come off for days, even after scrubbing with soap 😳). Is that normal? Any recs for a moisturizing (or at least non-drying), natural looking lipstick?
Ooo lipsticks, there’s some great formulas out right now. For creamy/comfortable: Hourglass Confessions lipsticks Natasha Denona I Need a Nude lipsticks Mac Love Me lipsticks ColourPop Lippie Stix cream formula Pat McGrath cream formula, very hydrating
For a comfortable matte formula the Mac Powder Kiss formula is really good.
One of my everyday go-to lipsticks is Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Sheer Rapture. The Vice lipstick comes in SO many different formulations, you can definitely find some that will feel comfortable (I think especially the sheer and cream formulas). I also really like NARS Satin Lip Pencil, and Chanel Rouge Coco and Rouge Coco Shine formulas. I'll look at my lipsticks when I get home and add any other formulas I really like. Oh! Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is still great. But the UD Vice sheer formula helps my lips when I forget lip balm/the chapstick I have with me isn't great. It's probably the most comfortable of them all, though it doesn't stay on as well because of that.
ETA: I also really like Bobbi Brown lip color (the original formula, Sandwash Pink is my go-to interview lipstick color) and Bobbi Brown Crushed lip color. Both are very comfortable, IMO.
There are lipsticks I love, but it seems like the formula dries me out a little/causes a little peeling even though they feel nice on. None of these do that.
I hate matte lipsticks. I would say my favorite is Clinique Pop which comes in a million colors. I also like pretty much everything from Bite (though I have not tried any of the new formula) and second the suggestion for UD Vice above.
Temptalia has a dupe finder on her website. You can put your favorite lipstick in it and will probably receive several dupe choices. This is usually more for color though not formula. It would probably be a good starting point.
